Y’all do realize the season is 82 games and we had undoubtedly the most difficult schedule to start the season, right? Plenty to gripe about. But declaring us the worst team as if these factors aren’t key and we are less than 10% into the season? Team is lost, yes, but this is essentially year 2 of the rebuild. We got nothing out of the first year with JW and Wood — except maybe to develop Tate more. We are 1.1 years into the on-the-court rebuild.
This is like building a house. We have great materials. Really good, but raw builders. However, the supervisor really sucks.
Team has played like this for far too long... McHale/MDA/Silas expect now we just don't have the talent to do it.
If they end up with a Top 2 pick this year then they won the season. No team has a Wemby and most teams don't have a Henderson.
I HAVE NEVER SAID TANK FOR ANYONE. The NBA developed the lottery to prevent this exact situation, but you all are dumb enough to believe we’re just going to be handed the first pick by tanking. We’ll end up with 3-5 and have wasted another year of no fun basketball for another talented kid who’ll take years to develop with this incompetent staff.
Complaining about tanking in general is like complaining about seatbelts. The conversation is over. Even when you yell and worry and panic about its future effects, you're doing all that practically alone. No one cares if you don't agree with something teams have been doing for decades. Everyone else looks at threads like this and rolls their eyes or trolls you a little bit. Almost no one believes that losing for a few years in favor of accelerated development is going to create players that don't know how to win. It's just a crazy fear knocking around a few people's heads. It's a fear (imaginary) about something that might happen in the future (also imaginary). No one believes that the evidence to date shows that it's going to go the way you think. This is like arguing that ships are better than jets. The conversation is over, it's done, no one even cares to have it. Tanking is way normalized. Stop stressing yourself out over something you can't control.
This was the plan. This is what the experts projected. It's on you if you expected something different.
How many straight years were the Golden State warriors terrible before they put together a core of Steph, Klay and Draymond and figured out how to keep Steph healthy? Literally decades of losing went away like that. Memphis was just tanking for years. How are they doing now? Philadelphia did it for years. They've been considered contenders for years now. Culture means absolutely nothing if you don't have talent. Coaching means damn near nothing if you don't have talent. How else do you propose we get the talent? Nobody was lining up in free agency once Harden asked out (nor did we have the cap room). We didn't have the assets to trade. Hell, the best player we were offered for James Harden was Ben Simmons. I just really don't know what else you think they could realistically do.
Man you said a MOUTHFUL! I have been saying the same exact thing. I never understood the tanking philosophy.
Coaching ALWAYS means something. Even when you lose, if you're being coached the correct way, it makes you better later on. So when you get better players, it makes winning easier. My thing with the Rockets, they are not being coached properly. Players are not cutting, they do not play defense, they look lost.
If we tanked for all these years and don't get a #1 overall pick, I'll have considered this entire thing a failure. Especially, if we keep failing to draft the best player at our draft position.
Give me one example of a team that was tanking for 4 years then suddenly turned championship level. Unless you draft LeBron it aint happening. Winning starts with clubs values, competent staff top to bottom, winning habits, in game coaching… you wont suddenly turn good because you drafted couple of kids. But you can with this other stuff like 04 pistons
I never said tank either, I’m just speaking in general. The consensus from a lot or some Rockets fans on these forums is tank for 1 more season since OKC owns our pick in 2024. And no disrespect but being dumb is expecting a team full of 19 and 20 year olds to compete after year 2 of a rebuild, 10 games into it at that lol, Nobody believe we’re going to be handed the #1 pick because if that’s the case then we would have gotten it the last 2 seasons after having the worst record in the league, but even then I don’t recall the Warriors even drafting a pick within the top 5 to create a dynasty. And truth be told we don’t have to tank, we’re honestly not that good due to most of our players not being old enough to even drink yet. And again firing the staff isn’t going to change a thing, we’re still going to suck because our team isn’t mature or experienced enough. Some of you guys either don’t understand how a rebuild works or just lack true patience. Damn even in KD’s and the Sonics/Thunder had 2 seasons of winning 20 and then 23 games before winning 50 and making the playoffs in 2010
