Any info on this kid? Can he actually be the next Nowitzki? It would be nice if we can add him and Nikola Vucevic with our 2nd pick. Anyways heres Donatas strengths and weakness.

strengths: Versatile lefty bigman with a high ceiling ... Has a lot of potential due to his size, agility and offensive development ... A finesse 4-man with excellent versatility, but shows the toughness to play inside with contact ... Shows a strong ability to run the floor and change directions, start and stop ... Has great legs (strong) and feet (quick) ... Has inside/outside ability with the ability to defend inside and play with his back to the basket, as well as knock down shots on the perimeter ... His outside shot has both range and consistency, and he has begun to develop some excellent moves including a jump hook, a turnaround fadeaway as well as fakes to draw opponents off their feet and excellent footwork ... Shows a competitive fire. He has a strong desire to win and improve, he just needs to show that at all times ... Gets off the floor quickly and has solid explosiveness ... A solid shot blocker ... Comfortable handling the ball when necessary to break the press and has solid vision and passing ability ... Has a very good body and appears that he will be able to add upperbody strength and become a solid rebounder and interior post player at the NBA level ...

Weaknesses: Is extremely talented and he knows it. At times he doesn't keep the pedal to the metal, exhibiting some lapses in focus and intensity (laziness) in practices ... Sometimes appears content to be better than others without dominating them the way he's capable ... That's the type of thing that he'll need to mature out of, learning to work hard at all times in order to reach the stature of a Gasol or Nowitzki ... Still needs to add polish on his moves on the perimeter but has excellent potential to do so ... Has thin arms and upperbody, although he has solid strength. He'll need to get stronger to contend with NBA bigs ... Solid length (6-11 wingspan) but nothing extraordinary ... Not as experienced or established as other European talents (such as Gasol or Nowitzki) were when they entered the NBA.

That scouting report is from 2009. Its from nbadraft.net or draftexpress.... While it is still accurate in some regards, it is old.

The major knocks on him are: poor attitude at times, questionable work ethic, and he is allergic to defense.

Dirk is probably ONE OF the greatest international players to ever play in the NBA. Calling anyone "the next Dirk" is just not fair.. especially when we're talking about a kid at the end of the lottery/mid-1st.

EDIT: duh. thanks lars. His stint on the Dream Team always makes me forget about that.

There were a great surge of great foreign players coming into the league from the late 90s to early 2000s. There hasn't been any great ones coming in recently. But I believe this class will finally produce good foreign players. And with Motiejunas who was projected to be a top 2 pick at the beginning of last years draft to him slipping at the bottom of the lottery, I believe that will give him the edge to be the player the scouts believe he can be. With us hopefully.

Dirk is a different kind of player, not a good comparison for 'Motie' IMO.

Donatas Motiejunas is more like Pau Gasol; his agile with great passing ability and ability to score in the low post (very good footwork, hands and touch) and also is able to face up and put the ball on the floor. Just an overall a great offensive talent. Also with his improved strength and frame, it should help him become a better defender in the low post.

Also FYI that scouting report that the OP posted was from like 2 years ago.

I'm not a fan of their profiles but historically they have been good (at least recently) at predicting who will go in the lottery and where. They keep a history of all their mocks on their website so you can verify for yourself if you want.

I prefer DX for any research or scouting write-ups on prospects but I'm not sure if they are as accurate with their Mocks as NBAdraft.

do not want...seems like the exact opposite of the type of center the Rockets need.

He's not a Center and will never be one but he can become the stretch 4 the Rockets want to surround a Good center with.

I like him. His BBIQ is fantastic and his post skills are Scolaesque. His favorate player watching is Scola.

Motiejunas was not on the Green Room Invite list. Far from a sure thing that he's extreemly high on the Rockets' draft board.
