#1 in fouls: 19.439 per game
#1 in disqualifications: 0.053 per game
    #1 in opponent's free throw percentage: 78.3%

Just realized Rockets are not lucky this year that everybody seems to shoot better free throws against Rockets.

BTW, Yao's free throw is 92.4% in Feb. That's amazing for a 7-5 big man.

Rudy need to put in a few extra sessions to work on our FREE THROW DEFENSE:D :D

Other stats no surprise & not inconsistent with previous RT teams. We play a safe, non-attacking defense.....it has it pluses and minuses. Personally, I'd like us to take advantage of our perimeter quickness and depth and vary things with traps, full and 3/4 court presses etc. - things we see from virtually every other team.

We are #29 not #1 in opponent's ft%. You thought the ugly pajamas would have achieved some distraction to the opponents at the line!

    GIVE YAO THE DAMN TECHNICALS!

Mobley is hogging all the technical free throws!

Does this mean we do a bad job of fouling bad shooters and avoiding fouling good shooters?

Well, Yao is still the third best ft shooter behind Collier and Mobley. Yes, Collier is 100% this year (2-2)! So give JC the damn technical! :D

Seriously, Yao has been pure cold-blooded lately when it comes to pressure free throws. I want him to be at the line when the game is on the line.

I think Yao tried a technical in December and missed. He never goy a chance again after that.
Last game against NY Yao was the go to guy and somehow he failed. Hopeflly this will not be his last chance.:)

i knew i wasn't just crazy when i felt that opponents had been shooting free throws exceptionally well against us. # friggin 1. how about that. and we've lost two very close games to gsw and SA where they each missed like 1 free throw the whole game (sa actually missed two after it was out of reach under 10 seconds i think) and SA was 27th in ft% coming into that game. ridiculous.

Combining the stat that teams shoot free throws well against us with the stat that we foul more than any other team ... OUCH!

You'd think the law of averages would work the opposite.

Sorry my #1 was confusing to you. We foul less than any other team this year.

I thought we had the least fouls called against us not the most.

    Oh, my bad.

Then it makes sense to me. Less foul shots would lead to a better shooting percentage.

    why?

    # of shots should have nothing to do with it. either we just foul the better shooters or we're just unlucky (i mean some team does have to be the unlucky team that leads in this category).

It's kinda like in baseball. At the beginning of the season, there are plenty of batters with .500, .400, high .300 batting averages. When they get more at bats under their belts, though, you'll have a handful of guys in the mid .300s, and none in the .500s & .400s.

Law of averages catches up with more attempts.

I would think more shots would lead to better shooting, because they warm up better, no? :D

Here's some additional stats I posted under the Yao and Rebounding thread...

We're 3rd in the league in team rebounding behind the Lakers and Golden State (1st)

We're 2nd in Rebounding Differential... We're +4.1 behind the Lakers and Utah (1st with +5)

    Yeah...and like 3rd in blocks.

BUT OUR DEFENSE LOOKS TERRIBLE. We cannot leave all these people open. It's like we're not even contesting shots. And people are making them. OUR DEFENSE IS NOT WORKING. We need to be aggressive and put pressure.
