    Hi Guys, 1st post here.
Anyway I am a long-time Rocket Fan from Hong Kong, and after my daily reading of some newspapers, I have seen this article (in chinese characters)

    This is the translation:
1st part: - Rockets won the lottery, and it translated the Ming cousin's dialog, which is posted by someone else in the post earlier. Blah, blah, blah, .... etc.

2nd part: This is the more interesting part. It quoted that the Shanghi Shark's GM said this is going to be a complex deal, saying "We have never been acknowledged that whether the Rockets will pick Ming, and they have never maked any indication to us before ... We only had communications with the Bulls, and they seemed to be very interested, Ming has never indicated that he wants to join OTHER clubs ... We, as a ball club, needs to follow certain rules and guidelines, and met with some certain conditions, but up to now, the Rockets still hasn't contacted us, and this will only make the problem become much more complicated."

This news is confirmed by another newspaper that I read.
It seems to me that the Rockets has been not very interested or reacted very slowly to contact with the Shanghi Sharks.

I'd like a vet too, but not an old one... we need longevity and youth.

In all honesty, the Rockets probably never gave serious thought to Ming because they probably never in a million years would have thought they'd be in a position to actually get him. They probably didn't have much contact with the projected top 3 picks because they were aiming for those they THOUGHT they'd be looking at. Hell, they're probably still in shock....we only won the lotto yesterday....are the Sharks really that impatient?

Can you post a link to this article? I haven't seen anything like it on other Chinese newspapers.

Only one way to find out if it's legit, and that's for me to read it myself.

I'm just guessing the mainland chinese have no idea how the draft works or no one actually explained to them details of the draft.
They'd probably think that the draft is actually rigged and that NY or Chicago would have almost certainly won the draft to pick Yao Ming.
Anyhows, I'm sure Yao Ming would be happy in Houston IF only he had flown down to check out the town.
