Here are some interesting Stats: NBA LEADERS - 2002-2003 STATISTICS STL/PG - ROOKIES 1. J. Williams, CHI 1.5 2. J. Hawkins, HOU 1.5 3. N. Hilario, DEN 1.4 4. E. Ginobili, SAS 1.4 5. D. That's something to note for all you guys posting in the "Steve is turnover prone" threads. Espescially considering that Steve has the ball the majority of the time. Anyways, maybe you guys can use this info.
Yeah...kind of a weird stat, but it makes some sense. It's hard to get steals playing one-on-one defense without hacking somebody. Of course, it's a misleading stat, considering most steals come off of players getting in the middle of a passing lane and swiping the ball. Stealing the ball straight up from somebody is more of a crapshoot than anything. About the turnovers, well Steve IS turnover prone, and has always been turnover prone. It's probably something we'll have to accept. Having 25% of your team's turnovers come from your starting point guard isn't too impressive, but I can live with it. As long as he doesn't turn it over late in games, it's OK...
Turnovers Per Game 1 G. Robinson, ATL 5.0 2 Jason Terry, ATL 4.5 3. S. Marbury, PHO 4.5 4 Pau Gasol, MEM 4.2 5 Chris Webber, SAC 4.2 6 Kobe Bryant, LAL 3.9 7 Jason Kidd, NJN 3.8 8 Steve Francis, HOU 3.7 Hmmm.......... I'll let this one speak for it's self. (ok, maybe not. I think this is a positive stat for Steve. Look at the highly regarded All-stars before him)
One stat that has stood out to me is points in the paint. In our four wins we are averaging 38 points in the paint and giving up 25. In our losses we score 28 and give up 34. With Griffin, Cato, and Eventualy Yao shutting down the middle we should be able to keep the other teams out of the paint. And on offense our gaurds and Kenny are great at driving and Griffin is starting to show signs of a respectable post up game. Put all that together and I think we should be able to control the paint in most games and keep getting wins.
Let's see now. Who said "Stevie is turnover prone!!"? Ammmmmmmmmm Ammmmmmmmmm May all you who don't like Stevie's turnovers become .....Hawks fans!!!
I thought Mooch might be the #1 clown in basketball, but it never occurred to me that he would be almost 2x better than everyone else in steals per personal fouls. Mooch is a nice guy. I hope he enjoys this stat while it lasts.
Wrong. It is very weird. Stockton probably has an even higher Basketball IQ and he never averaged over 5 free-throw attempts any season in his entire career. Free throw attempts usually come as a result of somone being taller than their opponent or being able to jump high enough to attack the basket and getting slapped on the arm. Andre Miller is a pretty tall point guard, but not much of a leaper. The fact that he only got to the the line 5.5 times last year makes it even stranger. I dont' know how to explain him getting to the line so much. Probably just a coincidence from only playing 7 games so far.
andre miller is getting to the line so much because he's continually penetrating deep into the paint. andre miller is one hell of a point guard...and if donald sterling would commit $$ to the starting 5, they'd have the making of one hell of a team. as is though, they're 4 individuals playing for contracts and 1 point guard trying to distribute the ball.
Actually, Adam Harrington has got Moochie beat in Steals Per Fouls. In 1 game and 1 minute's play, Adam has recorded 1 steal for the Dallas Mavericks and a total of zero personal fouls...bringing his S/PF average to infinity.
Hey, I just noticed another weird steals stat on NBA.com - Steals Per Turnover... And guess who's leading the league in S/TO???? Juaquin Mf'N Hawkins Kelvin Cato's actually #16 and Moochie's #17. It's weird seing Cato's name in a kinda positive context.
Can anybody tell me who is leading the NBA in offensive rebound/blocked shot ratio in the fourth quarters of games played while the moon is in a waning gibbous? Thanks...
No offense, but, how can Steve being ranked #8 in the league in turnovers at almost 4 a game, be positive???? Actually, seeing how Steves career turnover average is close to 4 a game, Id just the last 2 games are a fluke. If he can keep up the low turnover numbers over a long period of them, Ill then believe that its not a fluke.
The free throws thing has been pretty noticeable to me. Even though he's not passing out of double teams like he probably should, when he attacks the defense he's drawing fouls and not being forced into a bad shot. You don't see that same hesitancy that he's show in the past. He's attacking people and getting calls. Soon maybe he'll get the phantom superstar calls which would make him even more dangerous.
The reason why he had so many TO's the last couple of years was because he was making stupid passes, and forcing some unneeded plays. So far this season, he looks to be doing the opposite. I know that he won't avg. 1 TO for the whole season, but I do expect to see a decrease in the number of TO's.
