He needs a free throw ritual like all great shooters have. For example Landry spins the ball in the air, licks his fingers and then takes 5 dribbles, Hamilton mimicks the shot with his right arm and then dribbles the ball straight in front and then takes a last bounce to his right side, etc. Ariza simple looks at the rim, takes a deep breath and shoots. No dribble. No spin. No face rubs. Nothing. I think the dribbles at least help players relax and concentrate on shooting, helping them lose focus from the physical nature of the game for just the few seconds. With a legit free throw ritual, I am certain Ariza could become a 72% shooter this season at least.
True, he does need to dribble a couple times to get the ball-leaving-his-hands feel. Fact is that he's just not a good shooter period...from anywhere. I think he can be a 70%-75% shooter with more practice but not more than that because he's not a pure shooter.
who cares, he needs to be splitting his time with chase. chase should be in there for offense and ariza for defense. we expected too much from him, when in fact he's just a role player that happened to have played well because he played with kobe, gasol. imagine ariza playing for the nets, he still wouldn't be their best player.
LOL. Ariza? Free throws? LOL! This is funny because I think there are other areas of his play that seriously needs more attention. -
I think the name of this thread is wrong...it should read "There is no solution to Ariza's shooting woes....
By the way, why can't Ariza shoot anymore? He was a 40%+ FG shooter from NY to LA and now he's dead last in FG%? What gives? I still have faith in him.
It would be more beneficial to address the Rockets' Ariza woes by making Ariza someone else's problem.
It is pretty simple ... PRACTICE. I know a skinny, short, un-athletic 11 year old who is a 80% FT shooter. He has no ritual. He just practices. If you shoot less that 80% from the charity stripe, you're not working hard enough on it. BTW, in the pregame warmups against the Nets at the Izod Arena, guess who came out to work on their games? Brook and Landry. That ought to tell you something.
Gosh. You are such an annoying poster when it comes to Ariza. There has been no indication that the team as a whole has any issues with Trevor. It's not like last year when Ron Artest jacking up 3's while fading to his left visibly irked the rest of the guys. Also, you seem like a smart guy, but what don't you understand about the fact that Ariza shooting so much/trying to make plays is not just his decision to do so? From what I've read, you believe in Rick the Ruler's system, so why not wait patiently to see what his plans are with Ariza? My peaceful request as a clutchfans member: Please stop copy+pasting your opinion of Ariza everywhere. I don't want to put you on my ignore list because I like reading your other posts. Granted, this is an Ariza thread, but still.
Atleast he could make those 3's. Ariza can't make jack, I just hope he gets to 40% by the end of the season and increase that in the offseason so we won't have to pick on him next season.
