Well, Old Jerome Solomon is taking the Van Gundy position on winning. I don't know if they'll make it, but a good push should benefit them more than an modest increase in chances for a high pick.

(And I must note his mathematics about 1.5 game back vs. 4.5 games back is rather... hmmm.. curious. I mean, he's assuming the team would have won all 3 of these games. Jerome Solomon probably ain't gonna get a stats analyst job with an NBA team any time soon).

    Dumb Article.

He's trying to say we have to make the playoffs so we can get experience ?

Uh Brooks has been in the playoffs his past two years and he was a huge player last year. Don't think he needs to much more playoff seasoning.

Ariza has played a pretty big factor into winning a ring. Why does he need experience in the post-season ? And he won't be an important offensive factor in the playoffs next year when we get Yao back. So not sure why he needs more seasoning.

And Kevin Martin has been in the playoffs before and made a few big shots.......

And if we do make the playoffs this year it won't really help for next year when we are built in a completely different way.

Better draft pick statistically puts us in a better position going into this summer when we are conducting trades and fixing other needs and holes.

It still is a win-win if we do or don't make it.

But to say we need to make the playoffs to gain more expierence is dumb. Our players have the needed expierence.

    Battier-Check
    Brooks-Check
    Ariza-Check
    Martin-Check
    Hayes-Check
    Scola-Check

Once again our main starters/bench players are post-season experienced already....

We better make the playoffs, 8th seed ftw...it's best we can probably get.
If not, then I'll have to watch.....like..........baseba......I can't even say it.

Rather watch the grass grow than watching baseba.... Hell, I cannot say it either.

I think 8th seed is definitely worth it. We will lose. But say we take the Lakers to 6 games (which is not a crazy thought). I think that makes us a more attractive team for free agents. No Yao in two consecutive playoff series and gave the Lakers a headache?

    Also:
It gives Hill and Chase a chance to experience playoff basketball.
It also allows us to showcase trade assets.
It gives Lowry and Scola a reason to stay without driving a really hard deal.

Really? So after a few years of post-season play the Rockets have all the experience they'll ever need? That's like saying you don't to practice any more because you've done it once already this week. These aren't video game characters we are talking about here...experience matters.

    - Angry because I just read a JCDenton thread

They have to get experience playing in bigger games with their new roles. Remember, this isn't the Yao-McGrady/Artest Rockets anymore. The young guys who are being asked to take on a bigger role: Brooks, Ariza, Martin, Lowry, etc. all need to play as many quarters/halves/games of playoff basketball as possible to develop that moxie.

Solomon is horrible. Now I know again why I usually don't read his "articles".

So the Rockets are currently out of the playoffs because they "lack macadamias"? Really?!?! That's his explanation?!
This team has a few problems but playing without "macadamias" (stupid expression btw) is definitely not the problem. Does he even watch Rockets games? 50% of the posters here would do a better job than this clown...

I believe what he is trying to say is that 'this team' needs to make a playoff push to show that they can play with heart. Making to the playoffs would show that they were capable of bringing it all together and achieving a goal they set at the beginning of the year.

I would like to see them make it. Just because you never know what can happen in a 7 game series. What if Gasol gets hurt and Ron Ron goes crazy?

Yes, most of our guys have played in the playoffs before, but not in their current roles on 'this team'. Brooks being forced to make plays, Ariza stepping up his scoring, and Martin learning to be a go-to-guy on 'this team'. Hill getting to go against Bynum for a week straight. All of that would matter next year and beyond. I believe that is the point of his article.

I want to make the playoffs, because I think we can beat the Fakers.

    For the following reasons:

    1. I think Trevor will have success against Kobe. (I am sure Kobe has asked Trevor to play a lot one-on-one defense on him during practice--to help Trevor's defense as much as Kobe's offense.) Anyway, Trevor is long and KNOWS ALL of Kobe's moves--not to mention he has done well against Kobe this season. Kind of like when Golden State beat Dallas with Don Nelson’s knowledge of Dirk’s tendencies.

    2. Aaron owns Fisher.

    3. Kobe thrives on help defense and likes to cheat off Shane (A LOT!), but with Martin that's going to backfire.

    4. Also, with the emergence of Jordan Hill, Jared (for height only) and of course Chuck we can semi-neutralize the middle. Or at least, they can’t play hot potato with the ball in the paint.

I like our chances against the Fakers!

I canNOT root for the Rox to lose, tho 'intellectually' I'd like as 'high' a Lotto ping-pong odds as I could get.

One and done does nothing for me, but - I don't need Gasol and Ron - Ron and Kobe's pinkie to remember last year's Yaoless run to 7 in Rd 2 v the invinicipurples.

    Go Rox - win...the Lotto!

    1) Solomon's a proven idiot.

    2) Why is Scola not mentioned at all?

The "Queen" has his moments as a sports writer that just make you shake your head in disblief and for the most part this is one of them. I will agree the Rox should TRY to win and not just tank if the playoffs are on the line but EVERYTHING else is a joke.

The Rox have shown plenty of "macadamias" all season and will continue to do so until the end. Jerome like a lot of people forget that besides Yao, Ariza, Lowry and even Battier have missed significant time while going through a season altering trade.

Try to make the playoffs but once it's done then start Hill and give Bud 25-30 minutes a night, not this 13-14 minutes a game crap we've seen lately.

I get the whole 'winning is a habit' thing, but I don't think that means it's all a lose if you miss the playoffs, and therefore don't get crushed in the first round. Not saying I want them to miss or that I'm sure they'd get killed by the lakers, but I'm not gonna be heartbroken or question thier nuts.
