Vote for who you think is the better artist. Will let this round run into late Sunday night - you have until April 24, 10:00 P.M. CST to get your vote in. Bracket A: 1) Elvis Presley 2) Bob Marley Bracket B: 1) Bob Dylan 3) John Lennon Bracket C: 1) Jimi Hendrix 2) Prince Bracket D: 4) David Bowie 2) Neil Young
Bracket A: 1) Elvis Presley - Marley is a legend, no doubt but there is only 1 king. His '50s stuff is untouchable, IMO. 2) Bob Marley Bracket B: 1) Bob Dylan - Dylan admired Lennon A LOT and vice versa. Although I like the Beatles (have almost all their albums), I never got into their solo stuff and Dylan is one of my all-time favorites. 3) John Lennon Bracket C: 1) Jimi Hendrix - I never really could get into Prince although I like a couple of his songs. 2) Prince Bracket D: 4) David Bowie 2) Neil Young - a toughie for me but I see myself getting more into Neil Young than David Bowie. Unfortunately my CD collection representing them is woefully lacking.
Bracket A: 1) Elvis Presley 2) Bob Marley *** bob should not be shut out... Bracket B: 1) Bob Dylan *** 3) John Lennon Bracket C: 1) Jimi Hendrix 2) Prince ***** Bracket D: 4) David Bowie 2) Neil Young *****
1) Elvis Presley 2) Bob Marley***** Bracket B: 1) Bob Dylan***** 3) John Lennon Bracket C: 1) Jimi Hendrix***** 2) Prince Bracket D: 4) David Bowie***** 2) Neil Young
1) Elvis Presley 1) Bob Dylan 1) Jimi Hendrix 2) Neil Young (I own 16 Neil Young albums to only 2 David Bowie albums...makes it easy)
1) Elvis Presley 2) Bob Marley I have about the same amount of music by both, and I like each the same. Coin is up.... The King calls heads.....it's heads. 1) Bob Dylan 3) John Lennon If I were to pick it'd be soley based on Hurrican vs. Imagine. That's not enough to go by. 1) Jimi Hendrix 2) Prince I like a few songs by Prince, but these two should not be compared because it really isn't close. 4) David Bowie 2) Neil Young I can't.
Bracket A: 1) Elvis Presley 2) Bob Marley Bracket B: 1) Bob Dylan 3) John Lennon Bracket C: 1) Jimi Hendrix 2) Prince Bracket D: 4) David Bowie 2) Neil Young
2) Bob Marley (Elvis was a hero to most, but he never meant **** to me) ok i wont go that far... Bracket B: 1) Bob Dylan Bracket C: 2) Prince - mastered 30 intruments, played all instruments and sang all volcals on his early albums, flawless performer, has around 15 solid albums and thousands of recorded songs. Jimi was the best guitar player but Prince beats him all-round. Bracket D: 4) David Bowie is NY just Dylan light?
Bracket A: 1) Elvis Presley 2) Bracket B: 1) 3) John Lennon Bracket C: 1) Jimi Hendrix 2) Bracket D: 4) 2) Neil Young
Bracket A: 1) Elvis Presley- sorry bob but... the king is gone but he's not forgotten Bracket B: 1) Bob Dylan- as solo artists they don't compare Bracket C: 2) Prince- tough, tough decision. i agree with meowgi that prince's vast body of work trumps jimi's meteoric moment. Bracket D: 2) Neil Young- complete blowout here. meowgi, neil young is dylan light? how do you figure? i assume you know his catalog well. there is no other artist in this contest that has the total command over his songwriting, singing and playing the way neil does. i think neil young's greatest asset is that he is totaly unorthodox in all these areas yet utterly masterful. he is of of popular musics most original artists and in no way light.
[1) Elvis Presley - *** - sorry nesta, but how many movies about singing racecar drivers on hawaiian vacation did you make? and dont forget microscopic elvis - "man look at that paramecium! that thing's huge. i dont mean nuthin' by it, its just big...thats all im saying." "your the king tiny E!" 2) Bob Marley Bracket B: 1) Bob Dylan - *** - solo lennon was a wanker. everyone knows he did his best work with the plastic ono band. seriously though, if lennon wasnt in the beatles would he have even been in this tournament? 3) John Lennon Bracket C: 1) Jimi Hendrix 2) Prince - *** - i know its sacriledge, but i listen to alot more prince than jimi. jimi was the greatest guitarist ever, but prince isnt far behind and i dont think jimi could rip on the drums/keys/bass/dance like prince can. prince is the complete package - he does it all and does it all great (songwriter, musician, producer, baller). prince also has longetivity on his side. and sign o' the times. that album rules! Bracket D: 4) David Bowie 2) Neil Young *** - damn, this is the hardest for me. i love both these guys so much, but neil gets the edge as he has had a greater influence on my own music and songwriting. hunky dory is my favorite album b/t the two though.
Bracket A: 2) Bob Marley Bracket B: 3) John Lennon Bracket C: 1) Jimi Hendrix Bracket D: 2) Neil Young
Scoring update through 3814's picks: Elvis Presley 10, Bob Marley 6 Bob Dylan 8, John Lennon 7 Prince 9, Jimi Hendrix 7 Neil Young 9, David Bowie 6
Bracket A: I can't believe Stevie didn't make it. WTFlyingF. In the words of Public Enemy " Elvis Presley didn't mean s*** to me" 2) Bob Marley ***** Bracket B: 1) Bob Dylan ***** People always talk abot Dylan's lyrics as his strong point but always overlook something just as important, his Voice. In an age where idiots on American Idol all do their best shout down everyone else with melismatic chaos, why can't we have just one f***ing person try to sound different. Why do I have to listen to people wail with such phoney emotion because that is what everyone expects to hear. I want to hear someone sing like Johnny Rotten, Patti Smith, Cobain and Dylan combined. Bracket C: 2) Prince ***** Jimi was the great guitar player. But Prince smashed down barriers in the early 1980's that people had believed came down in the 1960's. Anyone listening to radio in the early 80's could hear how distant white rock was from black soul and funk. And of course you could see how far it was on MTV. Prince picked up where Sly left off and never looked back. I also have to give up to Talking heads in this matter also. Bracket D: 4) David Bowie**** I'm only voting for Bowie because of his influence on Costello. Otherwise I would call it a tie.
