the most glaring egs have been
    • imposition of tariffs on imports,
    • gov't handouts to farmers who're hurt by the trade war
most recent egs, in response to the CoronaVirus pandemic, so far in 2020 include
    • the Federal Reserve cutting interest rate by 1/2%
    • fiscal stimulus, being negotiated between the WH & Congress, to combat the spread of Corona Virus
      • free testing
      • pay leave
      • no payroll tax
      • etc

I don't think the payroll tax should be cut but I'm fine with everything else.

    This pretty much explains it...

What a payroll tax cut could mean for Social Security, Medicare and consumer spending

That’s because this economic slowdown is being driven by a fear of a disease, rather than a financial recession.

“Nobody wants to go on a cruise, nobody wants to go on a long airplane flight,” Gleckman said. “If you put another $20 in their pockets, they’re still not going to go on a cruise and they’re still not going to go on a long airplane flight.”

What’s more, a payroll tax cut would only benefit those who are currently working.

“If you get laid off or can’t work, then it doesn’t help you at all,” Gleckman said.

No one hardly notices a decrease in pay roll taxes as it is a slow trickle. Cutting pay roll taxes also disproportionately helps more wealthy people while not really benefiting the lower middle class and poor.

minimum wage workers would feel the most economic impact of the PR tax cut.

u mean to say in absolute of dollars, but not in terms of the % of take home pay

And absolute dollars matter. Poor people don't get discounts for being poor when doing things such as paying gas and groceries.

u do know that there is a cap of the salary that is subject to payroll tax.

typically, the salary of a Corp CEO is
more than 100 X the cap

btw, most wealthy folks make their $ from investments which are not subject to payroll tax

    the B word:

    https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/14/trump-coronavirus-industry-stimulus-129216

The sudden and precipitous shutdowns across the economy are forcing the Trump administration and lawmakers to contemplate which industries need targeted rescues
to keep them from collapsing entirely — and which can get by with broader support for struggling workers across the nation.

While lawmakers consider an immediate aid package for workers hashed out by Democratic leaders and the White House, Trump and his aides have been meeting with business leaders and industry groups to design an aid package — through tax relief and emergency loans — for the corporate sector, including airlines and hospitality industries
so, the Trump hotels / resorts will be benefiting from a Govt bailout, socialism at work

The electorate punished the Democrats for the bailouts of the 2009-2010 Financial Crisis.

I'm curious if the same will happen here against the Republicans. I suspect not.

Yes, once again we see that people like @cml750 and others aren't really upset by socialism. They are only upset when people use the name 'socialist' to describe themselves.

    https://www.politico.com/news/2020/04/01/trump-obamacare-coronavirus-160732

President Donald Trump said he is considering using federal programs like Medicare and Medicaid to cover the rising ranks of the uninsured after
his administration decided it would not reopen the Obamacare insurance markets to address the coronavirus crisis.
effectively, the Trump admin is promoting, Bernie Sanders' "medicare for all" idea

Trump's the greatest socialist president we've had since FDR. How ironic.

Trump is a life long NYC Democrat. Not sure why anyone is surprised.

The thing that surprises me is how much blow back coming from the left when he is taking over industry and spending years of gov budget.
