http://espn.go.com/soccer/news/2002/0713/1405350.html The closest thing to a paycut players will take in baseball, is when they defer their contract.
Are MLB players the dumbest group of people on Earth? Dont accuse me of doing steroids. Sure Im built like a linebacker but so are the rest of my team mates. Hell no I wont take a drug test. I wont to cost more then the club I play for. Sure the fans would love it, but Im tired, I want to go home. Lets call it a draw. Im looking for a real challnge, somewhere I can feel proud that I made a difference. I'll sign with the Yankees! The MLB itself isnt to smart either. Shutting down fans sites that promote their teams. I visited Asstrosconnection every day to get the latest news. Now I just dont bother at all. We're going to contract....some day....dont really know what. One team wont be able to play its player....hold on.....ok scratch that everythings fine.
Yeah, baseball players may be greedy, money grubbing, down low, steroid popping, egotistical bastards, but soccer players are...soccer players.
soccer players are....soccer players. And narrow minded people are.....narrow minded mr. AstroRocket. p.s. Hakeem was a soccer player.
People who wouldn't know a joke if it bit them in the ass are...don grahamleone. p.s. Yes he was, and if he'd never played basketball i never would've heard of him.
So what's the difference between these two millionares offering to take a paycut and Mark McGwire taking a below marekt value contract in St. Louis? Answer- There is none. Professional Athletes are all overpaid and some are willing to make financial sacrifices but most aren't. So quit over dramatizing that soccer player are better morally than baseball players. The biggest difference in baseball and soccer in the US is that alot of people care about baseball and alot of people could care less about soccer.
I like this part. Like he thinks he just clowned someone or something. Why do you guys say that? It just gets more stuff started...not that I'm objecting...
You wont find me defending soccer players either. One look at the World Cup with a bunch of b****es rolling around in pain when ever someone look at the funny said alot about the type of person that play the game.
Jeez Kidrock you sure got me! "4chuckie-Would Big Mac have ever taken a 5 mill/year salary? No... Thanks for playing." I hate arguing with soccer fans. Same argument everytime: "You just don't get it" Response: Yeah me and 98% of the US could care less "Soccer will be huge in teh US in 5 years" Response: Yep I've been hearing that for about 15 years now. So go take your little black and white ball, and go somewhere else and play. Your game is boring. Americans like power (the ability to drive the golf ball 300+ yards, hitting a bomb to dead center, throwing a 95 mph fastball, 250 pound LBs, 220 pound defensemen with a frozen puck traveling over a 100 miles/hour). THere is nothing powerful about soccer. Not a lot of people care about a bunch of skinny guys running around kicking a ball, with maybe 6 scoring chances in an entire game. Heck noone even knows how much time is left in the game until the official says it's over. Also (as mentioned before) it's sad to see your players lying on the field looking like they are dying, finally realizing their flopping has accomplished nothing, jumping to their feet and skipping down the field. Anyways maybe I'm ignorant to soccer, I've tried to watch it, but I personally can't stand it.
soccer has power. the ability to kick the ball as hard and as far as they do is power. golf? u say GOLF??? 'driving it 300+ yards'. golf is barely a sport. baseball...they stand around for five minutes followed by 10 seconds of play. in soccer the ball never stops. the average score of a soccer game is 3-1. the average score of a football game is roughly 3-1. 21-7. three touchdowns to one. soccer is ten times more exciting then baseball(a horribly boring not to mention corropt(ok i know i spelled that wrong) sport). the reason america hasnt accepted soccer yet is because of their desire to be diffrent. why have a diffrent metric system as well? well, its alrite if you dont like soccer, but those reasons you just gave for it being bad (players flopping) is crap. you mean to tell me players dont flop in basketball? bull. you are full of crap. ok...you dont like soccer. dont go telling people soccer 'has no power' or 'flops too much'. at least list good reasong you dont like the sport. its boring? oh, and baseballs 5 hour games in which nothing happens except for a home run every six games isnt. no power...man those golfers really got them huge muscles...i wish i was built like a golfer.
"soccer has power. the ability to kick the ball as hard and as far as they do is power. " Is that the same power as in kickball? "golf? u say GOLF??? 'driving it 300+ yards'. golf is barely a sport. " I didn't say golf was a sport but it's a heck of a lot harder to hit a little ball 3oo yards straight then it is to kick a ball. "baseball...they stand around for five minutes followed by 10 seconds of play. in soccer the ball never stops." Have you ever tried to hit an 85 mph fastball? Little harder than you think. THe hardsest thing in sports is hitting a round ball with a round bat. "the average score of a soccer game is 3-1. the average score of a football game is roughly 3-1. 21-7." It's all about scoring chances. Comapre it to hockey (similar scores). Goalies may 20-25 saves/game in hockey. In soccer they get 4-6 chances. "soccer is ten times more exciting then baseball" GUess you must consider watching marathons pretty exciting too. Soccer to me is like watching a marathon with a ball. THey are athletes, but athletes doing a boring thing. "the reason america hasnt accepted soccer yet is because of their desire to be diffrent." Nope we don't like it because it's boring, not trying to be different at all. "you mean to tell me players dont flop in basketball? bull. you are full of crap." They don't do it as much or as long as in soccer. Well maybe Stockton. "at least list good reasong you dont like the sport. its boring?" I don't like it because there is no scoring chances, it is boring and they flop too much, what is so tough to understand? "oh, and baseballs 5 hour games in which nothing happens except for a home run every six games isnt. " A home run every 6 games, heck individual players hit one out every 6 games. "no power...man those golfers really got them huge muscles...i wish i was built like a golfer." Yeah and the soccer players really win a lot of body building contests too. My entire point is millions of people watch Tiger Woods each week, millions watch ESPN hi-lites to see the bombs, big hits from the night before from MLB, the NFL, etc. Here in the US (let me say it again) we like Power. Tiger's drives, Barry's bombs, the Unit's heat, Pronger's slap shot, Ray Lewis run through someone.
Reasons suckor sucks: 1. Low scoring. There are not even opportunities to score. At least in football, there is the opportunity to score at any time. Sometimes two defenses will lock each other down and no one scores, but you are always only one good play away. 2. The field is too big. It takes all day for them to move the ball down to the other teams net, only to have it stolen and the process repeats. Wake me up when there is a shot on goal. 3. Ties. No game should ever end in a tie. There are winners and losers at the end as far as I am concerned. No penalty kicks either, just play sudden death. Too bad that would add another 3 hours to a soccor game because of reason number 1. 4. Little contact. Soccor has baseball level contact. 5. Weird celebrations. Wasn't it a soccor player that bit a teammate's scrotum after a victory.
dude, i'm no soccer fan, but you HAVE to be kidding me. Soccer is one of the most physical sports i've seen...there is LOTS of contact.
gimme a break, kid...no where in the article does it mention that any of these players are going to make 5 million dollars. and besides, 5 million dollars in soccer might be like 10 million in baseball...You're acting like these guys are going to take MASSIVE paycuts when it just says they've thought about it. Who says they arent going to just give up 250K or something?
Exageration maybe? Soccer does have quite a lot of contact, but it sure isn't "one of the MOST physical sports i've seen." There is definately more contact in football, basketball, and hockey than there is in soccer. I think soccer would be more popular if the field was shorten by a 1/3 with 1 less person on each team. Oh baseball sux... they need to shut it down for good.
Seems like quite a gesture from these soccer players, but lets face it, European soccer is at least as screwed up as baseball. At least with MLB they have a draft, which has some equalizing effect - in soccer, the rich teams get richer. In each country, there are only a couple of teams that are ever any good, and then daylight to the rest. Don't get me wrong, I despise the MLB system, but European Soccer is not much better. As for the old Soccer is boring argument, I guess it is a question of taste and what you were brought up on. If you grew up in Western Australia, your passion is the best game in the world - Aussie Rules Football It's hard for me to understand the fanatacism some countries have about soccer -to me, it is quite a boring, one dimensional game. I sincerely hope soccer does not gain in popularity, because if so, one day it will start to impinge on the sports I like watching. Another thing I don't understand. Why is that, generally speaking, countries that are fanatical about soccer, do it to the exclusion of almost all other sports? At least in America there are 4 major sports. It seems that Euopeans, Africans and South American only follow soccer.
You would get red carded in suckor for doing many of the things that are common in football or hockey. I guess you may have meant most physical after 3 of the big 4 sports in America. Anyway, suckor players are tiny, it isn't like the Diesel dropping his big elbows into guy's chests, or a hard foul by the Chuckster.
