They haven't announced which games will be played here yet, but we will be one of the host cities. http://chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/sports/4367776.html
This is great for the City, but there just aren't that many good teams in the CONCACAF. I'll check out some of the games b/c there's nothing like attending a soccer game, especially on the international level.
I wish they would still invite teams from outside CONCACAF, I think changing that was a bad decision. Hopefully Houston gets games from the later rounds so the teams will be a bit better.
I don't think it was such a bad idea. I always thought of it as a bad thing. It makes the confederation look weak when we have to ask these other teams to come in to make it a legit tourney. Many of the teams in the confederation have to qualify to get there. What does that say to them? I wouldn't count on Houston getting any US games. Mexico would be much more likely. It will be interesting if the US uses this as a warmup for the Copa America or if they just use it as a trial for domestic based players.
I understand why they did it, but let's be honest, most of the teams in CONCACAF aren't very good. I guess with USA and Mexico both playing in Copa America they'll still have a chance to play better opponents. I think they'll have two different groups for the tournaments, I can't really see them taking 20+ players away from their teams/offseason for a two month span.
Mexico has a 0-1-1 record at Reliant Stadium. The United States? 0-0-1. Colombia? 1-0-0 Last year, the Gold Cup games drew a good crowd... mostly Mexican and Colombian. Too bad it was only two games... DrLudicrous, we need to do a CF.net soccer outing SOON.
Defiantly, we should try to set something up for sometime in December. Maybe the weekend of 9/10 or 16/17.
Why are you being defiant? I thought we were good soccer friends... The 9th sounds swell (almost SwoLy). What area of town? Katy? We could do Bear Creek or Barker Cypress' huge park.
Haha, I misspelled definitely and just clicked on the first thing that was suggested. Katy isn't a part of town, it's the sticks. Will there be kids games at those fields on a Saturday, if not they should work fine.
Shoot, I forgot about that. I don't think they use ALL the fields, though. I will make some calls to see what the deal is. Do you have any other suggestions?
Houston will get one game from the group stage and one quarter final, both dates will be double headers. Here's how it breaks down. Group A - all three games in Miami Group B - 2 games at HDC, one game at Gillette Group C - 2 games at Giants Satdium, 1 game at Reliant Quarter finals - 1 set at Reliant, 1 set at Gillette Semifinals and final - Soldier Field in Chicago
I'd be willing to bet that the US ends up in Group B. Maybe Reliant will get them for a quarterfinal, but I doubt it.
CHICAGO will have semis and final? What did THEY do to deserve them?!?!?!?! You remembered that post, leroy420? Nice. How does a city park (Bayland or Baylum) near the SouthWest sound, dudes? Would that be cool with ya'll? I am making some phone calls to see if we can just show up to a park or we have to reserve it. If you know of a place where we can play for certain without having to worry if a league will be playing there or not, let me know, please.
I'm not sure about any fields, worst case scenario is I have some portable goals and we can just find a patch of grass at memorial park.
Rivaldo, name one you think will have a good field without too many patches of dirt and where everyone can go (central place). Most will have amateurs "practicing" una cascara (kicking it around) or a reta (challenge).
In terms of central, where does everyone live who will be going? I live in Missouri City...close to Sugar Land and Stafford if you don't know...Dulles High School has two nice fields and should have the goals up cause Soccer season starts up soon.
