Anyone here soccer fans? I love soccer and even though I love the NFL and NBA, I don't think there is anything in Sports that compares to the excitement and atmosphere of the World Cup and European Championships. Any other fans feel the same? I am a huge Holland fan and can't wait for EURO 2004. Does anyone know if there is any way of ordering through satellite or any other means all the games? If not, are there any sports bars that do show them? Thanks, Peace.
Bayern Munich will win the Champions League. I am moving to Munich and will probably go watch Bayern destroy Real in the Olympic Stadium.
I'm a huge soccer fan. My favourite teams are Iran, Brazil, Holland and the U.A.E. (in no particular order). Can't wait to see Hollad take Euro 2004, I think they've got the right pieces this time. As for the Champions League, I say Real will trash Bayern. BTW, FC Bayern are here in Dubai for a week, which I think is cool. Nothing like watching your country play a rival in soccer, I don't think that kind of connection exists with U.S. fans and international basketball.
Soccer is the best - there is nothing that can compare to a great match, I wish I had a chance to watch some quality soccer live.
Isn't there an effort being made to promote soccer in the U.S.? Then how come none of you guys get to watch any good games? If that's the case, there's no wonder soccer isn't so popular in the States. You can watch quality soccer for free over here (World Cup, Euro, Champions' League).
English and Dutch fans are still a little bitter when it comes to how they fared against Germany (even though both managed to win one big game each against us in the last 40 years) . And it is kind of justified because they often had the better players, individually.
They had Pele and Franz Beckenbauer play on the same team and could still not make it a sustainable success. It seems like a lost cause. Perhaps U.S. soccer needs a David Stern more than anything.
Ahem. I'm a Brazil fan before a Holland fan. Are u German? I don't understand non-German Germany fans. I mean, if you're going to be a fan, why not be the fan of a team that is interesting to watch and has fans like this:
Yes, why else would I root for a team that plays that kind of soccer!!!!! (Even though we had some of the most outstanding players ever...Beckenbauer...Gerd Müller...Karl-Heinz Rummenigge...etc... and most of them played for my favorite team, Bayern Munich, which I will get to see live often from now on! )
Almost EVERY decent German player ends up playing for Bayern. Look at Deisler and Ballack, I couldn't believe they actually sold out and went to Bayern. I think all these problems their having is just Bad Karma because they left their teams. Especially Ballack, couldn't believe he joined FROM Leverkusen, that was horrible.
Leverkusen is nothing. Bayern/Leverkusen = Harvard/University of Iowa = Houston Rockets/Yakima Sun Kings Ballack will play a big role in Bayern winning the Champions League this year.
Just don't think they have the players to pull it off this year, and drawing Real in the round 2 didn't help. I like Man U's chances this year, especially since they have a walk through in the second round with Derlei, Porto's top striker out for the year. The Rio ban will hurt the backline, but with Giggs, Keane, Scholes, van Nistelrooy, and the amazing play of American Tim Howard in goal, I really think they can do it. If only they could land a striker to take some of load off of Ruud... (hopefully Fulham will give in and sale Louis Saha).
Sane, how do you get to watch Rockets basketball in Dubai? I might be coming there for a month or two in a few weeks and need to figure out how to watch or keep up with the Rockets. I am not a soccer fan, but I love big time rivalries between countries. That is one reason I absolutely love cricket. I dont think anyone can convince me there is a better rivalry out there then India vs. Pakistan. It is a WAR! It is 1.1 BILLION Indians and 300 MILLION Pakistanis wishing death upon one another!
I can't see Man U winning it. Their defense will be vulnerable against Real, and I don't know if they have enough scoring power to take advantage of Real weak Centre Backs.
Well then step aside you wuss! I aint joking either. When it comes to cricket between India and Pakistan anything goes. They are already bitter enemies, so the cricket field is like a war to us.
Whenever I decide a game is interesting, I ask either my uncle or my friend to record it for me. Have no clue how they get it though. I think they someone in some company that you can order games from? Not sure. Unfortunately, I won't be here in the coming weeks though, I'll probably be in Abu Dhabi for a while then Oman. If the gaes are showing on NBA TV though, you can go to a "Shisha" store and watch the re-runs in the afternoons when there's no one there. Make sure they have NBA TV first though. As for rivalries, my favourites are Iran vs. Saudi Arabia and Brazil vs. Argentina. Classics IMO.
It's true. You may not know anything about cricket, but when these two teams play, no matter WHERE you are you'll hear about it.
