The Euro 2008 draws were done today: LINK LINK As usual my team Holland got stuck in the "Group of Death"!!! France, Italy, Romania, are you kidding me???? Should be a fun tourney. Can't wait for next summer!
Hah, I was going to post this thread after getting back from lunch. Spain got very, very fortunate with this draw. If they don't come out of their group, Aragones will be gone immediately afterwards
The funny thing I heard not so long ago was that the general population of Austria wanted to forfeit their spot because their team is to terrible. Got me thinking that it was some sort of rumor started by the British media. The Austrian soccer team is pretty bad though. One question. Who are the bigger overpaid international duds, the US mens basketball team or the English national soccer squad?
Yeah, that was hilarious. Holland lost in Belarus and hoped to avoid a tough draw...then Germany only drew against Wales (LOL) and now they are stuck in the deadly group while we are up against Austria, Croatia and Poland (don't forget Poland!). I'll probably be at a lot of the matches.
I don't think there is an equivalent...yeah some great teams underperform but it's usually not because of arrogance/laziness as the US men's national basketball team. In soccer it's alot easier for major upsets b/c weaker teams can play ugly (i.e. Greece in 2004) by sitting back and packing in it defensively and make the most out of their free kicks, corner kicks and one of two counter attacks. Lucky you...you're in Germany right? I don't know, it's going to be tought but top 2 advance and I am not sold on France and Romania as good as they were in qualifiers can still stumble on the brightest stage. I just wish they would fire Van Basten already. The guy was a great player but sucks as coach. He is playing completely against Holland's tradition of beautiful free flowing soccer
Why was Holland in Pool 1? That is one unbelievable group. I see no clear favorite. Holland always finds a way to choke in the big tournaments, as does Spain. If Italy gets out of the group, I think they will see Germany in the final, if the brackets work out that way. IIRC, all games are going to be shown on the ESPN channels. Can't wait...
