Beckham confronts fan, gets booed in 1st home game

    ------------------------
"It doesn't affect me", "you can't be liked by everybody"... WTF? Really? Leave that to us "regular peeps", mister professional.

What a joke this disgruntled homesick player is. I don't care how good he is, as a professional, you don't taunt the crowd. I just saw some footage on Telefutura where some Galaxy fans said he asked the fan to "come here, you drunk" and called him a "mother F_'er"... how sad is that? Isn't he supposed to contain himself more and not be affected by opposing fans.

I am glad he got the reception he got.

Here's a later story that contains a link to video footage of the confrontation.

Loser. I hope the Galaxy or MLS grow a spine and fine his selfish butt some good amount of cash. That is chump change to him anyway, but sends a lesson.

I went to the game. He was booed whenever he touched the ball for the first 25 minutes of the game. He made some good plays later and the boos died down.

Then at halftime the corner of the stadium (hardcore Galaxy fans) showed all those signs and were talking trash which pissed him off I guess. It was pretty funny. He got a nice applause though when they took him off. 50% boos and 50% cheers.

The guy is still a limey douche.

I think it's hilarious that he goaded someone into coming down, knowing that security would probably get to him.

But hey, at least MLS is getting some attention!

    ^ Not even close.

You hit the nail on the head, Astro. There's footage from one of those fans saying he was being an ahole.
    Seriously?

You should read the article, sir.

    Really?

The article clearly shows that fans were booing him BEFORE he confronted a fan.

Are they mad because he was on loan to an Italiam team?

They're pissed because he's pretty much made it clear he doesn't want to be here any longer. He was trying like hell for a total buyout, but AEG was smart enough not to cave in for less than market value. He's said he wants to go back. He should take his buyout option after this season and just leave permanently. If he makes the England squad for 2010, he wouldn't be back with the Galaxy until probably September of next year. What would be the point?

The real question is who is the more ridiculously ineffective fighter, a professional soccer player or a soccer fan?

You asked "why are the fans so mad at him?" It's not because "he was on loan"... it's because, after being on loan, he acted like he shouldn't do what contract agreements and buyouts say. That the MLS is on a lower level than Europe goes without saying, he doesn't need to say all that... all he needs to realize is that he made a mistake when he signed to be in the MLS just for money.

Why can't a player such as he is, earning millions of dollars, just be happy about PLAYING ANYWHERE, give the fans a good showing, contribute to the team, etc., without wanting to go play for another team? YOU DO WHAT YOUR CONTRACT SAYS and stop whining.

So Milan lets you play with them. Say thank you, and return to your duties. How would you feel if Artest were to be "on loan" to the Fakers and said he didn't want to come back 'cuz the Fakers' play is on a higher level? You wouldn't want him back and would boo him EVERY time he touched the ball. Don't ask silly questions, man, you know why he is booed... same thing happened to Franchise in Canada.

It was a fun game to watch. Chelsea, even though they won, seemed suprised by the whole thing. I don't think they expected to have Ljungberg kick their ass all over the field, again. Then again, it was Chelsea's first action of the preseason and Seattle is in the middle of their season.

    I agree, sir.

Look, it's not so much that he's doing this, it's that MLS keeps looking bad to the rest of the world because of this guy.

"Nope. I'm sure of it. Now I really hate him. "
^ name that movie (difficulty: easy)

Beckham is overrated, always was. Galaxy were idiots for giving all that $$ to a washed up overrated player. Beckham did not particularly want to play in MLS but he would have been idiot to pass up on all that money. Anyone would.

I dont blame him for wanting to go back to play in Europe (Let's face it. MLS is a joke compared to Euro leagues). He needs to realize though that he will suck in Europe.

And yeah, he is a scumbag. Trash talking with a fan. Way to go!
