so there was a minor (well i dont know where the epiccenter is) earthquake right now in the LA area. it lasted probably like 8 seconds but things shook but nothing major my Nemesis Prime transformer and Hakeem starting lineup figure on my desktop tower are still standing. its not a big deal to me since i was raised so cal since i was 3 but it has been a while since there was a quake like this that was a little more than just a rumbling. i had a laugh since most of the staffers outside of my office never had experienced an earthquake and they were freaking out like crazy. I think I am far enough from the epic center judging by the strength of this one to not feel the effects of any aftershock.
Listening to Jim Rome and they said it was a 5.6 but aren't sure where the epicenter was. Epic center?
Felt it. I had an urge to duck under the desk but fought it through. Biggest earthquake I've experienced since I moved here. According to CNN it's 5.8
its somewhere east closer to san bernandino/OC edge of LA county. I called my mom out there she is out but really flustered a few show pieces at home fell and broke but nothing major. My boss called too and he had some broken objects at his place in whittier. As long as everyone is ok i am fine. i was worried because i had a hard time getting anyone on the phone, i think a few phone lines were down for a bit.
apparently the epicenter was around the chino hills area. dang that really isnt that far at all from home. i am glad everything is ok
I was going to post a thread right after as I was checking this site when it happened. It certainly felt nervous for a minute. All is well. Reports are in. No damages here. I live about 15 miles away from the epic center.
I was at the Fashion Valley food court down in San Diego and it freaked me out as the Soda Machine moved away from me as I was getting my drink. Felt like I was on a boat for about 15-20 seconds and then it was back to normal (minus the few aftershocks that you could barely feel at all). Definitely the biggest one I've felt since I moved out here from TX 6 years ago.
dang i was just down there a few days ago for Comic Con, my cousin and I actually had lunch at fashion valley and watch dark knight (again for me) at that amc.
My LA friends are laughing about it like its a reason to have an earthquake party. It doesn't sound that serious. I WANT ONE! I wonder if anyone was getting it on when it happened and didn't notice. Possibly take credit for it?
I was outside just about to jump in the swimming pool when I felt it in the valley. It lasted longer than most quakes and the buildings around the pool were shaking. I know what to do indoors, but I had no clue what I should do outside by the pool with buildings and palm trees all around it. My dogs were freaking out a little bit, but luckily there wasn't any real damage. My friend's phone had some troubles for a bit, but I guess it was back to working order in about half an hour. Luckily the after shocks were smaller so apparently it wasn't a fore shock to a bigger quake. That's good.
Mrs. SwoLy tells story of how she was "used to" these light earthquakes BEFORE the 'big one' in Mexico City. "Meh... I've felt those." <- that's what SHE said . Are they really THAT common in Califas? They say a few light ones are foretelling of a "BIG ONE." Be careful out there, y'all.
