The Webber clan pared the list down to eight teams and went back and forth on the pros and cons of each club. The source said the Knicks were on the list. The Wizards, the wildcard is San Antonio, which would have to renounce free agent David Robinson's rights;Houston and Orlando were also on the list. (apparently the others are the Kings, Pacers and Detroit). http://www.nypost.com/sports/knicks/28603.htm [This message has been edited by Achebe (edited July 05, 2001).]
More like one in a million... I still seriously doubt a girl like Webber and a guy like the Rockets could ever end up together. ------------------ I would rather have Mo Taylor and his love of the Rockets than Webber and his love of our money. Rocket's need power forward. Mo near now. Go near Mo.
If we get Chris Webber we will be the Houston Trailblazers *REPEAT* If we get Chris Webber we will be the Houston Trailblazers *REPEAT* If we get Chris Webber we will be the Houston Trailblazers *REPEAT* If we get Chris Webber we will be the Houston Trailblazers *REPEAT* If we get Chris Webber we will be the Houston Trailblazers *REPEAT* If we get Chris Webber we will be the Houston Trailblazers *REPEAT* If we get Chris Webber we will be the Houston Trailblazers *REPEAT* If we get Chris Webber we will be the Houston Trailblazers *REPEAT* ------------------
Knicks Wizards San Antonio Houston Orlando Kings Pacers Detroit Well that makes 8 in the mix, still think the Kings with Bibby are easy favourites, then Detroit, Knicks won't happend they have nothing to send the Kings. ------------------ "The things I enjoy most, I suck at: 1) Sex: everything's fine until she makes noises." - Achebe
Do you believe that yet LilKid? Please feel free to acquire eleven extra all stars so that the Rockets will 'turn into the Blazers'. Hell, I'll grant you four for the sake of argument... do you have 8 in your pocket though?
Indiana has the most to offer in a sign and trade, even without including Jermaine O'Neal, have a coach Webber idolizes in Thomas, and his best friend, Jalen Rose, is locked up long term. Despite their lack of a nightlife, they seem like a likely destination for Webber. Knicks? No. Wizards? Hell no. I don't think the Pistons would help the Magic to land Webber in Orlando, which means Orlando doesn't have enough to give up in a sign and trade as Mike Miller is their most valuable commodity, and the Kings don't need him. Rockets? Maybe. I'm sure Webber likes the uptempo style, but if he collaborated on the break down of the teams he'd possibly go to with his family, like the article says he did, then I would think certain members of his family would probably tell him the common, false national perspective that he wouldn't be able to get enough touches on the Rockets with our "ballhog" guards, who shot all of 15 shots a piece per game this past season. ------------------ The Smurfs were Communists
If we get Webber, there will be EXTREMELY too much demand for the ball. Have you ever heard of three 20-point scorers on one team? I haven't. And this is NOT including Griffin. Just the star starters alone will be enough for a team to fall apart. ------------------
Hopefully we are not pursuing Webber as common knowledge seems to suggest. Webber alone is not worth Dream, Shandon, Mo T, and probably even Mooch and Bull. I mean would anyone here have traded all five or four of these guys straight up to Sac for CWebb. Hell No! He doesn't help us that much. Shandon is very important for us. He started all 82 games for us last year. Every team needs an iron man "Mario Elie" type. We should not let him go. ------------------ Mr. President. No man thinks more highly than I of three legged cows. They deserve to live. On my own part, I consider it as nothing less than a question of reason. Cows with three legs are good. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth : three-legged cows are better. They are better because the meat on them is better. The steaks are more tender. Three-legged cows tend not to wander as much. These cows could be the symbol of our country. The world would look upon us with great respect. They will want our cows and pay good money for them. The cows could symbolize freedom and hard work and three legs are better than four. They are meant for us; they can be meant for no other.
If you want an example that is somewhat similar to this, you should look at the Bucks. They have three 15+ ppg players on their team, with a guy who would start on most teams and is a 3/4, Tim Thomas(Griffin), coming off the bench. The Blazers are an abberation, not a precedent to be looked upon on how not to build a team. ------------------ The Smurfs were Communists [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited July 05, 2001).]
I'd prefer Taylor just b/c of the amount of money and capspace Webber would demand, but I'm not buying the "Trailblazer" bs. Almost every player on that team is either way past their prime or a total nutjob (guess which one I'm talking about there). IF we got Webber, we'd have 3 players entering or nearing their prime and another one that's just starting in this league, we'd be nothing like the T-Blazers. If we could work a sign and trade for Webber, I'd be ecstatic, but I don't see that happening. ------------------ This post contains no smilies, you must judge my seriousness on your own...
I don't think Webber would be the best choice at PF, simply because Mo would give us more options after his signing, but I too think the Portland analogy is a bad one. Steve and Mobley both were calling Webber and trying to convince him to come to the Rockets. You think either of them would take the time if they weren't willing to give up some of their shots? Francis in particular has shown a great willingness to forgo any unnecessary scoring if it means better involving his teammates, so don't insult him and Mobley by comparing them to Blazer players who can't get along and play well together. ------------------ I would rather have Mo Taylor and his love of the Rockets than Webber and his love of our money. Rocket's need power forward. Mo near now. Go near Mo.
Good example. I had no idea Robinson or Cassell averaged that many points! I thought they were in the 15ppg range. So now that you've proven there can be a scoring trio, what about our fourth man, Eddie Griffin? I don't think this leaves much room for him to grow. We got Webber clogging the inside, and Steve, Cat, and Webber puttin in the points. Where does EG come in? ------------------
i totally agree with tacoma park, band geek and raven on rockets being compared to the blazers. i dont see any problems with having 3 capable-of-20+point scorers. why must they all shoot the same equal number each game? anyone that has the hot hands or the inferior defender should shoot the ball. i dont see how players can complain if their teammates are winning the game for the team by shooting 50+%. i'd rather have hakeem first than maurice taylor. if we're using the griffin inside mo outside excuse, might as well just play air bullard at the 4. ------------------
I guess you guys changed my mind about getting webber. The only downside I see now is that it leaves little room for Eddie Griffin to grow. Prove this wrong, and I'll be ecstatic to get CWebb. ------------------
Everyone should definitely agree that CWeb is the best available power forward on the market. My reasoning for making him our top FA priority is this: 1. Mo Taylor said that he would not mind us talking to CWeb. Also, Mo does not really have any options outside of Houston and Detroit, only two teams that can and would be willing to offer him a contract. Detroit, maybe even less so now that they got Cliff Robinson and White at the forward positions. 2. We must accumulate as much talent as possible from the 1-4 positions. Forget about getting a center. If the Philly and San Antonio series taught us anything, its that no one in the league has a center to stop or even contain Shaq one-on-one, especially in the playoffs. I doubt that Nazr or Marc could do a better job than Mutombo. The only way to contain Shaq next season is with a collapsing defense that will deny the entry pass, the same thing the Sonics did in stopping Hakeem. I feel the long armed and athletic Griffin as well as Morris could accomplish this. All you need is a body behind Shaq that can hold his ground - a motivated Cato could accomplish this(I know this is wishful thinking). 3. If we lose Shandon, so be it. Although he was the only one who actually tried on defense last year, I think his talents are duplicated by both Morris and Griffin. 4. Signing Webber would obviously mean that Hakeem is gone. However, I think it would be best for Cato. I hope that if Rudy shows enough faith in Cato to allow him to start, that he will produce. I don't think that Nazr or Marc are much better options than Cato. Both are only average defenders. Rebounding and scoring at the center position would only be gravy if the Rockets landed Webber. 5. I don't see how signing Webber would limit Griffin's growth as a player. Sure, his offensive numbers won't be as good. But growth is obtained both in experience on the court and work off the the court. There are still many roles for him to play on our team, shotblocking, rebounding, and a secondary scorer both on the perimeter and inside. Basically, if he wants to get better, it has to come from within. Plus, he will probably get more minutes because we will not be able to sign Shandon. His competition at the three position would be Langhi, Walt, Bullard, and Morris. I see the tradeoff as being this: Webber+more minutes for Cato+more minutes for EG and TM > Mo+Hakeem(or FA)+Shandon On a side note: I watched Webber play alot this season(Sac was practically on NBC every weekend). He absolutely dominated in most games. The reason he was a different player in the playoffs was that he was playing with an ankle injury. There is no way that Ho Grant or Horry could have stopped a healthy Webber. ------------------

Just the star starters alone will be enough for a team to fall apart. [/QUOTE] The Golden State Warriors in 1990-1992 had 3 20+ scorers in Richmond, Hardaway, and Mullin. Those teams were playoff teams, but probably over-matched by the Bulls and Lakers. I do like your point, but the point being is that I can recite an example. ------------------ Louisville Rockets my ass
The Celtics had 3 Hall of Famers in their prime that scored around 20 ppg. The Rockets had Chuck, Glyde, and Dream with all 3 close to 20 a game. We can't lose Moochie either way if Webber joins us or not. He is has an Early Bird Exemption. ------------------
And those Warrior teams have no serviceable players to think of to support the stars. To start at C and PF was LeSalle Thompson and Tolbert (he does the Fox Sports shows now). The only player that had a right to be in the NBA on that team was a young Tyrone Hill. ------------------ Louisville Rockets my ass
Oops... forget the dynamic duo of LeSalle Thompson and Tom Tolbert, I was mistaken. Instead, it is Alton Lister (big improvement) who teamed with Tolbert who reigned as the twin towers of the golden state. ------------------ Louisville Rockets my ass
dont forget the lakers of the 80s: Kareem, Magic, Worthy and scott oy yeah....the celtics starting five were all all-stars during their careers with the celtics: Dennis Johnson, Danny Ainge, Bird, McHale, Robert Parish and their sixth man was Bill Walton a hall of famer. Trivia Question: who had the most rings from those six celtics? ------------------ [This message has been edited by crash5179 (edited July 05, 2001).] [This message has been edited by crash5179 (edited July 05, 2001).]
