I'm praying that Clark runs. There's no way in hell Lieberman will ever be elected; Edwards has no experience (but the same idiotic candor of Bush.. hmmmm...); Kerry can sway the NE... that's it; Dean is intriguing but "he makes too much sense". This is the last published blurb I've found on Clark. I'm hoping that Will can throw something together for Slate between his sodomy-metre and articles in praise of all things republican. Will, do you have the time?
I'm guessing you are a Democrat. What about Hillary Clinton? Will any of them have a chance against George W. Bush? How about Al Sharpton?
sla, The country isn't ready for a competent female yet. Just look at how everyone hates her, since she doesn't sit pretty like their lobotomized wives. I think that Al Sharpton tried to buy crack from an undercover agent once. I guess he may have sold it to George Bush, but the damage is done. Oh yeah, and Al Sharpton is black. Timing, let's hope that it's between Clark and Graham. If Graham isn't a tweak, I think he might have a shot.
I think it will be Edwards. He's a Southern guy which is strategically important, plus after Al Gore the Dems may want to see if another smooth- talker can win the presidency again. His credentials as a trial lawyer should keep the unions happy. He can possibly appeal to lots of people if he stats in the center. I don't know about his foreign policy experience though.
I knew there was someone I forgot. The guy sounds intelligent, but we're trying to raise the bar a bit. The presidential age requirement may be a hurdle (in that the 70s and 80s were totally cheesey), but I think that we should be able to find a few candidates that were faithful to their spouses/didn't do cocaine/went to Vietnam. Damn, now that I think about it, we should see what that guy Al Gore is up to.
First, it's not going to be Lieberman. Second, where are Gephardt and Daschle? They're both likely to run. I wish they wouldn't, but at least one of them (probably Gephardt) will. Kerry and Edwards make the most sense, but I think they're both non-starters. They make sense on paper, but neither's likely to inspire passion in core voters. I hope someone else gets in. Frankly, I wish Hillary would, but she's not going to. For now, I like Dean. I don't give him much of a chance, but he's a relatively fresh face and I've liked what I've read about him. If Hart gets in (and I don't think he will), he'll have a good shot at my vote, too.
I like Tom Daschle. I have no idea why he's as hated as he is, at least that's my peception. Of course the fact he's from S. Dakota, the only state with negative electoral votes, doesn't help.
Omitting Daschle and Gephardt were simply oversites, though I suppose, that now, my views on their candidacies ring clear. Hillary has repeatedly stated that she will not run, prompting the obvious conclusion that she won't risk her longterm career with a loss. I do wonder, however, if those same angry white males that hate her now will warm to her by 2008. I guess her candidacey isn't completely counterintuitive, though, since a "2 for 1" next time around will be quite attractive (since the 2nd will be an intelligent President, even if he does smell like a republican to me; now watch her tire of his bs and divorce him, lol). It is in Edwards' favor that he's a Southerner... but don't forget that the Democrats also require their candidates to be intelligent. I don't know if Edwards has it in him, to be honest. Sheez, Edwards is just a face, Kerry is a regionalist, Lieberman is a conservative and a Jew, Dean doesn't have the money, Hillary's competence scares off males (b**** better make me some pie), Daschle and Gephardt are too centrist to excite Democrats, Graham will be labeled eccentric by the media, the General sounds like he doesn't want it... And the friggin man who won 50+ million votes last time around wants to sit around and boink his wife while he teaches a few classes. Accidental President Part II, coming in 2004, to a White House near you.
I wish Hillary would run. I can't wait to see her forced to anwer questions from professional journalists for the first time in her political career.
t, WTF? Welcome to our country. Hillary Clinton is a United States Senator... from that little po-donk state labeled "New York".
It's really uncool for me to keep responding to my own thread... however, SINCE I CANNOT EDIT MY POST AND RESPOND TO MR CLUTCH... Oh yeah, he lost that state, 5-4. Funny enough, the sitting president is being coaxed into paying up by the Supreme Court Chief.
Achebe, where have you been? Hillary won't sit down and talk with serious journalists. How many times have you seen her on a Sunday morning national show? When Hillary ran for the New York Senate, she called it a "listening tour" because she didn't want to talk to reporters. This woman has NEVER answered the tough questions. She had secret service agents keep reporters away intentionally. I want to see our finest reporters force her to answer tough questions. She owes this to the Americans she wants to serve. I want to know EXACTLY how she made 100,000 off cattle futures with no experience and no risk. When she made that money, somebody lost. I want to know why she lied to congress about the whereabouts of the Rose Law Firm records, and how those records ended up in her possession two years after a supeona. I want to know about her role in pardoning convicted citizens in exchange for votes. I want to know why she held illegal secret meetings in an attempt to socialize our nation's healthcare system. I want her to clarify her position on the Middle East. One minute, she is hugging Ms. Arafat after a speech that charged the Israeli government was purposely poisoning Arab children (a lie), and the next minute she is pledging her complete support to New York Jewish voters. I could go on and on and on.......... but you get the picture. New York is full of yellow dogs that don't care if she ever holds a press conference. If Hillary wants to go national, then all bets are off, and she better have some answers to some very tough questions.
