I had to. It was the only way I could make tinman love me.

    I went with the Samsung 50" DLP HDTV 1080p in the link. Gets delivered tomorrow just in time for the Rockets game on ESPN HD- W00T! I was able to work the price down to a little over $1600.00, but once you add a new stand, insurance, tax, delivery, etc. I was like OMG.

    Hopefully the 1080p will be worth it. I cannot wait to hook the Xbox 360 and Gears of War or NBA 2K7 up to this beauty.

    I'll probably never get laid again.

    I think 1080i = 720p?

    and 1080p is the best one available now? Don't quote me on it though. :p

    I totally don't know what that means, but I want it.

    I'm in the market for an HDTV since my woman's getting me a 360. What's the best way to go, experts--store or internet? I feel more comfortable getting my hands on it in a store, but if it'll save me $200, I can stay home from work.

    I went in store but still used the internet specials from their website. They also have a 125% price match guarantee, so shop around.

    Plus they happened to be running a 5 hour only "$100 extra off" online special when I was in store which I was damn happy about.

    I got a $100 CC gift card, too. That was pretty dope.

    We got the 720p version of this same TV. It was a little jarring at first seeing the standard def channels come through as compared to the HD ones available (currently have Timewarner). I'm actually really wanting the time when all channels broadcast in HD to come that much quicker.

    The 360 looks outstanding on it.

    1080 wasn't that big a deal to me since I don't think I'm ready to jump on the HD-DVD/BR bandwagon yet. But I'm really happy so far with what I got.

    Well, mostly...having a problem that I can't determine whether it's a signal issue or possibly something with the TV...

    I got a used SONY 57" CRT for $800 a few weeks ago.

    It seems like the Mavs play in HD every other night. :mad: :mad: :mad:

    Got the same Samsung 50 in' DLP TV for x-mas last year and haven't been more amazed. The HD channels are indescribable and watching sports on it just pays for the TV itself. Got it just in time last year to watch the Rose Bowl, and everytime a big game comes up my TV gets whored out; but yah, its awesome.

    That's what I wanna hear!

    Although, they did have a Sony XDR or something in the store that absolutely blew my mind. I've never seen a picture so clear. It almost made me dizzy. Waaay outa my price range, though.

    My family just got the 61' samsung version of yours. Just know that p (true HDTV) > i and rear projected is a lot more money for the buck than plasmas/lcds.

    Do you get motion sickness too?

    Yup. Experienced my first episode last year, 50 miles offshore for 5 hours. That was nothing but fun.

    Is my TV going to make me ill? :mad:

    1080i doesn't equal 720p... but yes 1080p is the best out right now.

    i = interlaced
    p = progressive

    The number of pixels per square centimeter. Or something like that. The more pixels, the better the resolution... =better picture. You can see the difference, but the bigger the display, the more you can see that difference. I think. ;)

    Not quite "per square centimeter"...:p

    720p = 720 lines displayed, all from the same frame (I'll get into it more)
    1080i = 1080 lines displayed, but 590 from one frame, and 590 from the next frame (or something like that)
    1080p = 1080 lines displayed, all from the same frame.

    Blue = Frame 1
    Red = Frame 2

    1080i
-------------/\-------------
-------------/--\-----------
------------/--\------------
------------/----\----------
-----------/----\-----------
-----------/------\---------
----------------------------
    |--------------||------------|

    720p/1080p
-------------/\-------------
------------/--\------------
------------/--\------------
-----------/----\-----------
-----------/----\-----------
----------/------\----------
----------------------------
    |-------------||-------------|

    Edit: OK, the above is a bit exaggerated, but it's what the difference between 1080i/1080p could look like if you looked close enough.

    Yeah, I think it'll be the same with us. I'm having some problem with the cable signal though - well I say it's the signal but it may be the TV. Not sure. These greenish/purple horizontal lines that cross the screen occasionally. It's gotten better, but it's a minor annoyance that I wish I could get rid of.

    The 360 looks great, though. And that Discovery HD Channel is simply outstanding. I don't think I've watched more Discovery. :)

    HAHAHHAHAHA that's funny...it's almost 4AM and it's what I'm watching. Discovery Channel has really struggled the past few years, but their HD Theater Channel has got to have the best (non sports) HD programming.

    My roommate got the Samsung 50" DLP last week and just got HD-DVR Digital Cable (Comcast) about 14 hours ago. I don't even watch that much TV, but I...can't stop watching.

    (I was watching HD movie trailers for 45 minutes earlier)

    Of course, ONDemand isn't working properly, and ESPN must be a weak signal since it's breaking up every 5 seconds. Anybody else having this problem (it's only ESPN)?
