Despite the title, what predictions have you nailed lately, too?

    Some of my biggest gaffs:

    1. Rams 41- Patriots 17
    2. Astros in 5... (pick a year)
    3. Denver? Beat Green Bay? Hah!
    4. Rick Pitino's going to become a great pro-coach!
    5. Colorado will be lucky to keep this within 21 - 2001 Big 12 Championship
    6. Connecticut? Beat Duke? Pleeeeaaaseee!

    Best calls:

    1. Philadelphia will win the Eastern Conference (pre-season last year)
    2. Lakers will defeat the Spurs easily in the WCF.
    3. Astros will rebound to win the Central (last year)
    4. Called the Ravens as my Super Bowl favorite before the year started, last year.
    5. All sorts of players I just knew would bust: Marcus Fizer, Terrance Morris (well, ok, he has a little more time to prove something), Chauncey Billups etc. I wouldn't list these, except I haven't been wrong often on this one. I'm wrong sometimes when I think someone will succeed... but if I call bust, I seem to be uncannily correct :).

Tinsley.....He could not beat Fredie Williams off the dribble last year so I assumed NBA defenders would be able to deny his penetration also.

    Biggest gaffs:

    1. Spurs over Lakers in 2001
    2. Packers over Broncos big in Super Bowl 32
    3. Maryland and Arizona over Duke last year
    4. Astros in 4 (any year)
    5. Giants over Ravens by comfortable margin in Super Bowl 35

    Best calls:

    1. Patriots 23, Rams 20 (almost nailed the exact score)
    2. Oklahoma over Florida State
    3. Rockets to sweep the Magic in 1995
    4. Dbacks over the Yanks
    5. Spurs to sweep LA and Portland in 1999

Overall, my best bet was putting a lot of money down on the huge spread this year, and betting on OU straight up to beat FSU a year ago. My worst bet was watching the Spurs tank against the Lakers last year. :(

My negatives are too many to name. :D

My claim to fame is calling 0-3 North Carolina over #5 (??) Florida State!

SOME OF THE BEST BEST CALLS:

Uconn over Duke (also got 3/4 final 4 teams that year). Uconn was a great team, they had only lost 2 games that year if I recall and they were w/o some key players those games. Duke was a great team too (only lost 1), but I could smell a tough game and thought the Dukies would choke, and they did.

Pats over Rams. Again, it just looked like a much more even game than the "experts"(sheep) were predicting based on the Pats beating an outstanding Steelers team and the Rams almost losing to Phily. Plus other intangibles also went to favor the Pats.

Denver over the Packers in the Superbowl (Terrell Davis and the Denver offense was killing people)

Packers over 4whiners in NFC quarters (Cowboys 5th/Switzer's ring year)

Texas over NU (James Brown's 4th down play)

Tennessee over FSU (national championship game)

    SOME OF THE WORST CALLS:

The Chargers (plus like 19) to cover against the 4whiners in the Super Bowl.

Nebraska + points versus Miami this year.

    Texas over CU

    CU over Oregon

UNLV over Duke in the Final Four (the 2nd, and sucky, classic match-up against them)

    Lakers over Bulls
    Blazers over Bulls
Jazz over Bulls twice (I never did well picking against the Jordan fellow obviously)

Yeah, but that Duke team was a truly outstanding team. I mean, look what happened to all the guys in the pros. Rip Hamilton's a one dimensional scorer, and the other Uconn boys are out of the league. Elton Brand's a 20/10 fellow, Maggette has a nice future, Battier's a RoY candidate. Langdon and Avery... well... err... still better than Uconn :).

That was my freshman year of college... and I've always had a bit of a sentimental attachment to Duke since they beat UNLV (whom I hated)... and I talked a loooot of smack with all the people from Connecticut. Man, that wasn't a fun night afterwards...

    Bad Calls
    1. Sean Elliot - He was my favorite player and I really thought he would be the next MJ.
    2. Doug Smith and Randy White- thought both of these guys would be good.
    3. Cade McNown - I thought he would be in the pro bowl by now.

    Good calls:
    1. Tony Battie - I knew he would suck
    2. Vince Carter - Something special about the guy.
    3. Kobe -didn't want to believe it, but I knew he would be good.

    1.Spurs repeat (although, pre-Timmy injury)
2.Atlanta as this seasons most improved
    3.Sixers knock off Lakers
4.A's winning the World Series last season
5.Nets will straddle the 8th/9th seed this season

    Best predictions:

    1.Pats upset Rams
2.Sox to come back from 0-2 against Cleveland
    3.Titans music city miracle
    4.Marlins over Indians
5.Michael Finley would become a superstar (albeit I said for the Suns)

That team wasn't just Rip though. El Amin has been in an out of the pros and Voskal starts for the Suns. They also had a really good physical PF and a really solid college version of Joe Dumars (SG/PG combo)-both outstanding college players whose name I can't remember right now. UConn had a very solid starting 5 that didn't lose a single game that year with everyone in the line-up. Also, at that time Maggette was a very inconsistent athlete and Battier didn't have any offensive game either. Future pros yes, but not seasoned excellent college players yet. The latter (being seasoned college players is underestimated), after all a team with Webber, Howard and Rose plus 3 guys that have played some level of pro basketball (Riley, Jackson and King) never won a single championship. Neither did a team with Jamison, Carter, Williams and 2 more semi-pros that was pleagued with no depth.

UNLV was awesume. I loved it when they buried the smug Dukies by like 40 in the national champoionship game. One of the best ever national championship games. The UNLV team over a 2 year period was perhaps the best college team since the 80s--though their single loss in the second year resulted in them choking away another championship. Still doesn't take away that lovely finals performance the year before.

Yeah, they looked great on paper. Unfortunately they join the many ranks of the notebook elite. :(

hey..remember when I said I thought the Detroit Lions would be a surprise team this year??? and remember when they surprised the heck out of me by being absolutely awful??? that was pretty cool....

i thought bo jackson would hit 40/40 back in junior high...still convinced he would have if it weren't for those pesky injuries!

That's not a bad prediction... he just got screwed by injuries.

Hush your mouth, bahdakota! Langhi's further down the depth chart than some NBDL players!
