there is a lot of talk in other newspapers where the writers have actually seen eddie griffin play that he is only 6'8" and is short for a pf in the nba, and that he is not quick enough to play sf at a high level given the explosiveness of guys like shawn marion, and that offensively there is little indication he can take anyone off the dribble facing the basket.

so, is there any rationale for all of this euphoria, or did the rockets simply once again squeeze payroll dollars for les alexander with a "next year" promise?

I've yet to read anything that says anything close to that. Do you have any links? Everything i've read says he's the real deal.

Griffin will start from day one, and his role will not necessarily be defined by numbers (3 vs. 4) or positions. Will depend on offensive and defensive matchups. Even think he'll play center in certain situations. He's the real deal and will be All Pro eventually.

    Barkley a PF @ 6'4" and Gasol a SF @ 7'1"!! Gimme a break. [IMG]

I think he's referring to articles like this.

I say take it all with a grain of salt. Very few "experts" predict a player's success correctly. Case in point, and I'm not trying to call Eddie the next MJ, but nobody predicted Jordan's success when he first entered into the league, and there were some who didn't even view him as a franchise player. Writers like this also doubted that KG, Kobe, Tracy, Hill, Hardaway, or Payton, to name a few, would ever turn out to be the players they are\were, so don't take any of these writers seriously.
