So um...apparently FF7 Crisis Core for the PSP isn't Vaporware.

I thought this game had joined GT:portable and DMC Portable in the PSP vaporware category, but I guess not. The trailer looks amazing. Need a little more footage to get an idea of what the battle system is like though...seems like a customized Kingdom Hearts engine or something. Gameplay looked OK based on what little was shown (hopefully not any worse than FF7: DoC).

This probably didn't deserve a thread, but the trailer kind of brought out the FF(7) fanboy in me, so I had to post it.

To make up for that, here's a scan of FFXII RW for the DS:

There is a show going on in Japan next week I believe, and Square-Enix will be showing off some new stuff, including new trailers for FFXIII and Final Fantasy vs XIII (or whatever the name of that game is...we never even saw the first trailer). Guess that explains some of the new media they're putting out.

Now we just need to see the trailer for the FF7 remake, along with a general release date...

I thought the FF7 remake was just a rumor and proven false?

    And what's vaporware?

I was just messing around with the remake comment. Don't know if was proven 100% false (hard to really do that since SE would like to keep this a secret I imagine), but most of the stuff about it is from rumors and message boards, not SE. I don't even think there is a team available at SE to work on the project, at least not for another few years.

    Vaporware:

I was basically saying that I thought SE just announced the game, but never actually had any plans to release it. This game was announced more than 2 years ago IIRC, and SE had yet to really show anything from the game or even really give it much of a push. So I assumed they just canceled the project, especially with the DS doing crazy things and the PSP doing not-so-crazy things.

This is good news. I hope It's not a shooter, though.

I've been waiting for Square to release a really good RPG exclusive for PSP. I just finished Valkyrie Profile. I'd never even heard of it before it was ported to PSP. Very fun game.

This and BOF3 makes me want to have a PSP. The DS right now just doesn't cut it with me with its RPG's... Yea I know I haven't tried FF3 yet but still.

Hey RC, this is a little off-topic, but I want you to check this out:

    http://www.bluedragon.tv/

Check out the trailer... man does that RPG look AWESOME or what??? I might consider getting a 360 now after watching that.

Yeah, Blue Dragon does seem impressive (although I knew that before watching their newest trailer ;)). For some reason, I kind of like Trusty Bell a little more based on what I've seen (mostly just footage from TGS), but those 2 games along with Lost Odyssey (which was a bit disappointing at TGS IMO, but understandable given the early state of the game) should give the 360 a library with some nice RPGs. Much better than what the Xbox had, that's for sure.

I do want to say that I hope you can turn off that annoying voice in Blue Dragon. That sounded terrible.

After Dirge Of Cerberus, it's a little hard to get excited for any of the FF7 'spinoffs', PSP DS or otherwise.

But the final fantasy fanboys will still buy 'em.

Yeah, that's my biggest worry. I'm hopeful that DoC was bad mostly because SE was trying to make it a shooter instead of something they're actually good at (is any Japanese developer even good at making shooters?). For CC, if they just ported over the KH battle engine and made a few customizations (making it work better on the PSP), I'd probably be happy with that.

Sorry to bring this back, but I found a translation of the video (from TGS...must have missed it...though I probably didn't care w/o a video):

(spoiler in case you don't want to read it...for some reason)
    Thanks to Suzaku and AdventChildren.net

    Haha!

I thought that CC was going to be based on the Turks, namely they're the main characters...anyways, RC's trailer really did peak my GF's interest now, but I am a bit wary on it TBH...in alot of ways, I feel like SE is really milking FF7 dry, and I kinda do worry about the quality of CC...here's hoping for the best...thanks for the scoop RC.

There was FF7 Before Crisis (BC), a cellphone game that was about the Turks. Not sure if that got you thinking CC would be about the Turks...

SE is probably milking FF7 too much. For some reason though, I still want to see a FF7 remake (or some new project, maybe a sequel to the movie or something), even though I know it will fail to live up to expectations, adding even more tarnish to the FF7 name.

I was originally worried that I would have little interest in playing CC since I didn't care that much about Zack or the events that led up to FF7. But that trailer did grab my interest, something I didn't quite expect (I've had little interest in the FF7 spin-offs except for the movie). Still doesn't mean the game will be any good though. I've also read that this might be a multi-disc game, which could be pretty annoying on a portable. :(

You're right, I got Before Crisis mixed up with it...too many FF spinoffs (FFX-2, FF12 RW, FF7 AC, CC, BC, FFXIII, FFXIII VS, FFXIII Agito, FFXIII Haeresis (rumor))! A total remake in FF7 would definitely be something I would get without hesistation...better yet, a PS3 remake of FF6 would be that much better for me personally. Once you finally have the time to buy it and play it, I'd be interested to see how you like/dislike FF12, RC.

Yeah, SE is really starting to milk the FF name. I remember not that long ago that the sheer idea of 2 FF games occurring in the same "universe" (basically a sequel or spin-off) was absurd. That's why I always disregarded the possibility of a new project based on FF7 (either remake, sequel, spin-off, etc.). Ever since X-2 though, it seems like that is no longer an issue for SE. So they might as well remake FF7. ;)

I'd actually like a FF6 remake too...perhaps even more so than a FF7 remake. They're my 2 favorite FFs (up to 10 anyway), and since FF7 has been getting a lot of attention, it would be nice if FF6 did too. I saw a recreation of the Opera scene in FF6 using FFXI. It was pretty awesome IMO...not sure if it was because of the 3D world or what, but I really enjoyed it. I imagine I'd get a similar feeling if SE put in the effort to remake FF6.

I actually bought FFXII already. I preordered it through ebgames.com, so technically I bought it when it came out on October 30th. I had it sent to my parents house so I wouldn't be distracted during these last few weeks of the semester. Two weeks or so from now, I'll be able to focus on the world of Ivalice (once again). But until then, I must stay focused on my schoolwork (one more reason to hate Calculus ;)).

OT, but I'd like to mention that Famitsu is a bad source for reviews. It isn't really clear why though. I was using their reviews not that long ago, although from now on, I probably won't.

Basically, Famitsu allows a publisher to decide how they rate a game. I forget the exact process, but if a publisher doesn't like what Famitsu has planned for a review, they can work out a deal. Famitsu will get exclusive info/media from that publisher (as well as some $$$ if need be), while Famitsu will be a little easier on the game being reviewed. This explains why DOA Xtreme 2 was getting like a 34/40 (IIRC) over there. Famitsu always gets amazing exclusives too, which I guess is also partially explained by this.

That's not to discredit Blue Dragon (or any other games that Famitsu gave high scores for that matter). From the impressions I've read and what I've seen from the game, it seem like a great JRPG and probably deserving of the score it got from Famitsu.
