So, should Reggie be a DB or WR still?

I remember hearing people (mainly UT fans) saying that Reggie won't cut it as a QB, and would be better off as a DB. I'm just wondering how many of those naysayers will eat some crow, now that Reggie will start. It's not often a DB is able to start at QB during his true freshman year.

Yep...I think it is safe to say that you won't see many of them post a retraction. They'll just say how lucky Reggie got and that it was a fluke, etc. The way it works is that anytime A&M brings in somebody talented all Texas fans must repeatedly let people know what "is wrong" with the recruit so that "Texas wouldn't want him." It's crazy.

I think UT fans didn't really like Reggie, because he was often compared to Vincent Young.

You also compared the two. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you have a grudge against UT because you weren't accepted, right?

The "what position will Reggie play" thread did not pop up after the VT game. Funny.

Just a couple of guys hating on UT. Nothing unusual. Refman went to atm, Kidrock wasn't accepted. C'est la vie.

Noone here has said anything about Reggie in a negative manner. Seems like you're chasing the wrong ambulance, counselor.

Hats off to Reggie. The guy is oozing with talent. Luck had nothing to do with it. He's that damn good. Texas tried to recruit Reggie, Reggie basically said "take a hike." No harm no foul. We got a QB who should be capable of leading s to 9-12 win seasons in the next 4 years.

Huh? I compared the two, and I even said that VY was a little better than Reggie. What I meant was that because people like myself, compared them, there seemed to be some bitterness from UT fans regarding Reggie. Maybe YOU weren't one of them, but I know there were plenty of UT fans who went out of their way to say Reggie should be a DB, before he even set foot on A&M's campus.

As for not getting into UT, I admit that. But my "bitterness" has nothing to do with that. UT wasn't even my first choice anyway. I didn't want to stay in-state for school. If I had always had dreams of going to UT, only to be denied, then maybe I would be bitter. To quote yourself, "You're chasing the wrong ambulance, counselor."

My "bitterness" stems from the fact that I feel like most UT fans are completely biased when it comes to discussing college sports. Major is the one UT fan on here, I feel like doesn't go out his way to overrate UT.

To make things "fair" I felt this way about A&M, when they were at UT's current level, in the early 90s. I was tired of hearing the Aggies hype up their team, which usually folded like a cheap tent in big games. Now, I feel like the current UT team, and fans, resemble the Aggies from 10 years ago.

My main purpose of this thread was mainly to gripe about how UT fans went out of their way to criticize/bash an 18 year old kid who has proven them wrong thus far. When fans of other schools bash Simms, often times, UT fans will promptly mention how nice of a guy Simms is, how he's only a college kid, etc , which are all valid points. However, there just seems to be a double standard with UT fans.

    I am done griping.

Fair enough. Can't wait to see Reggie/Vince in the next 3 years. Should be very exciting. I like mobile quarterbacks.

I really don't remember anyone here outright disparaging Reggie. Everything I've heard is "wow. Hope he's not starting on T + 1." He's a stud, regardless of what position he plays.

I guess I directed my anger at the wrong target. As you may know, I frequent Hornfans.com a lot, and that I guess, is where my beef lies.

hornfans is full of dip****s, but still, a very good board. I think the Reggie bs and Paul thompson bs sounded good in the beginning, but I think alot of Horn fans said "oh ****" when both PT and Reggie played.

The Reggie to DB stems from people who've seen him play and thought he was raw. I think he has a fabulous arm and good instincts. Those guys aren't coaches, mere speculation. Hell, was it horndfl or henry james who said they would crap a brick if Thompson ever took a snap at QB for OU? Bof those dudes are respected there.

I like to read HF, for posts not regarding UT or OU. As UT fans, I admit, seem to know more about football, on a national scale, more than any other fanbase I know of.

With regards to Reggie, I too thought he was more raw than a California Roll, but with that cannon, and a few tweaks here and there, I just had a feeling that he would make it as a QB.

I think it was horndfl who was the guy who said that about Thompson. I remember Texaus really wanted UT to get Thompson, but as a WR or DB.

And, according to hornfans, Thompson would be at UT if he were offered at QB. I tend to believe that. As biased as soem of those guys are, there are some insiders there.

As good as Mack is in recruiting, allegedly, UT came in second for Nick Maddox, Deshaun Foster, and Houston. Imagine that stable of rb's to go along with Benson last year. But alas, what would Greg David do?

I read something about Clarett too... But I don't know how much to make of that, since I looked at Clarett's Rivals100 profile from last year, and I don't think he really listed UT, as well as the fact that Clarett commited to OSU in Aug or July before his Sr year.

What do you think of OU being able to recruit the D/FW area so well thus far? That is a huge coup for OU this year, because the Houston area takes a backseat to the D/FW area this year, as far as recruiting talent goes.

My point has been that both QBs were highly touted and it has been a huge debate across the state which one is actually better. Personally, I think they possess the same talent level. But I have read many, many things from Texas fans stating that "UT wouldn't want Reggie anyway."

Any school that wouldn't want either of these QBs or BOTH of them needs to re-examine its recruiting practices. That's all I was saying.
