What should we do with next year's selection?

  1. Draft the best college player at PG or PF; we need somebody who can contribute now

Clutch's post in a thread over in the NBA forum highlighted how the Rox chances of a playoff berth this year are fading fast, and barring a miraculous turnaround, this looks like another lottery season.

So this year, looks like we clock in around #11-14 selection in the draft.

Tabling the fact that it is bitterly disappointing to land in the lotto again after getting a little taste of playoff action last year, what do we do with this fruitful bounty?

Demote CD to assistant GM, hire an experienced GM, let him decide on draft picks/trade and whether to keep JVG or not.

Well, it really depends on the strength of this years class. From the looks of it so far, it looks like it will be another weak class.

If we can, we should trade the pick, if we could package it for a nice deal. It is obvious that our scouts aren't doing a good job, so picking up a rook and having him ride the pine under JVG won't help much.

If I know who is the best out there, I might work in the NBA management. LOL

But anyway, I have an idea, what about Jerry Krause?
Is he still fit to be a GM? I know he has been victimized by the Bull's poor performance for the past 5-6 years,

    but

Jerry Krause is a very good talent evaluator (Artest, Brad Miller, Crawford), the problem of him is that he does not know who the foundation is so that he traded away all these mid-level talents. But he does not need to worry about that in Rox. He has the foundation already and just needs to add the pieces.

If Jerry Krause can be on board, Rox will be a championship contender in 2 years.

I say go for a highschooler with the most potential and most athleticism. I’m sure T-Mac can give them a few pointers on making the transition smooth. Plus, Howard, LeBron, and Amare have proven, high schoolers can contribute immediately now. You don’t have to wait 3 or 4 seasons anymore like in the past.

Everybody is thinking this way. If you only have the pick between 11th and 14th. You are not going to get a good one unless you know what to look for, and who to pick.

And our FICKLE fans still trust the Rox GM to make the right pick? This is amazing patience towards management. Why not show it toward the players then, and maybe the future high school baller?

What if the future high school baller does not show improvement over 2 years, are the fans going to blame it on the players or the management?

Actually, Scott Layden would not be a bad hire. Not as head of basketball operations, but as a member/consultant of a team effort. He has made some innovative moves, as well as, some risky moves, but he does know the European game very well. As a member of a joint effort, or team, his knowledge could become a valuable asset.

I say we take the best PF available period. Via High School, College or Trade. Although I'd probably go with the safest choice if all things are equal. If someone is willing to give up proven NBA caliber PFs like Chandler then I'd snap him up even if we have to give up a guy with more "upside".

I believe the Rockets, or any team, could extend an offersheet to Chandler this offseason.

Well sure, but he's also a restricted FA which always inflates the value. I don't like our chances of signing a guy like Chandler, but if we had a pretty good draft pick then the Bulls might be willing to do a sign and trade.

not sure why the Bulls will want more draft picks, unless it was top couple (and i am not sure who the standout picks are this year) then i would guess one of the last things the Bulls need is more young players to wait on for improvement

    That's chicago native Juwan Howard.

They could use his, um, familiarity with local roadways and such as a steadying influence.....

Wow, I selected International. Surprised to be only the third in that category. Especially considering how many voted for a college PG/PF? Who, exactly, would y'all suggest. There seems to be a number of potential Pau/Dirk/Nene type international players in this year's draft. The college crop looks kind of weak, but I'll probably be way off.

I don't know much about the players who will be coming out this year but there don't appear to be any surefire picks in the lottery.
I also don't think our management can get the right player for us either considering the talent out there.
I would trade the pick to get some young promising player.

Did you laugh your ass off today when you found out that nbadraft.net now has "premium" content?

Ha. Aside from looking like it was designed by a 12 year old, that site's scouting reports are beyond ridiculous. They see a white Euro PF? Oh he's the next Dirk N; A high school PF who can block shots? Oh, he's the next Garnett.
