He starts against the Mavs and he is a non-factor on offense and defense. Pretty much as he has been in the 6th man role so far.

So for those few who have been talking up Juwan and saying he hadn't been given an opportunity.....

How many more times must we endure his play before we see more of Spoon and Padgett? Rotate Mo Padge and SPoon and the rebounding improves and the hustle improves. We are in a situation where we have to rotate 3 guys and keep throwing fresh bodies with fresh legs at the superior PF's we will be facing. About the best we can do for now.

And I do agree we are waiting for the Rockets to draft a young stud like the Magic did this past draft in this Howard kid they have playing PF.

    And Juwan rides the pine

I think we should trade both Howard and Taylor at the first opportunity we get.

On offense, he only got 4 shot attempts making 2. He's going to need to get more than that to make an evaluation. What you saw last night was Yao and Tracy being much more aggressive on the boards and on offense. So, I don't think you can fairly judge JH on his 23 minutes in this game. Taylor had 21 minutes and didn't even do that well going 1 for 6 with 5 personal fouls.

I think the goal is trying to maximize output from that position between all the players. That means figuring out who is the best to start and who is best spark coming off the bench. I don't think you can rule on that with just this one game with JH starting. But, there is obviously a problem at that position with consistent play. I suspect JVG will keep mixing it up at that position until he figures out what works best. I think your premature to write off JH as the starter after just one game especially since it was the TMac show the whole game.

I didn't want Howard on this team at all. I thought he was a downgrade from Mo Taylor. I did hold out one hope for him though. I felt his defense would be quite a bit better than Mo's. I was wrong in that. I wouldn't be upset if Howard didn't play any more this year.

He didn't do much, but I did like Mo coming off the bench. Neither is starter material.

    Surfguy,
Juwan has been a starter for most of his career. He has been a starter on losing teams. The Rockets are a losing team now. So yes, he is consistent. Juwan is not getting young or quicker. When Cato was around, at least he was athletic and had size/shot blocking. Especially at the PF, we need someone who is athletic to defend the PFs of the West.
So starting Juwan, Dirk had 53 pts. I would have been happy if Juwan held him to 40.

I really wanted the Rockets to make Swift an offer, he would have taken it. Even if Memphis wanted to keep him, we would atleast make them pay more for him.

I wonder if the Rockets have a package that could land Swift, I doubt it.

Remember when the TNT guys were talking about something JVG said about his PFs - that he has 4 PFs who all think they should be starting? They (TNT) then made the quip of the night when they stated that in reality NONE of our PFs are starting material - that ALL 4 should be backups.

Seriously though, what you are seeing from Howard is about what I've seen from him at Denver, Dallas and Orlando so it comes as no surprise to me that he is so inconsequential. As I have posted before he's just OK - nothing more, nothing less. Before throwing bricks at the guy for being so average, folks should remember that CD WANTED him and that they (Rockets) were gushing over getting him in the big "trade". The fact that both he & Mo T did not replace what Cato brought to the table (rebounding & hard nosed physical presence) apparently was not deemed all that important by our illustrious GM.

What makes you think Swift would have taken an offer from the Rockets? Keep in mind that all we have is the MLE, Swift wants more than that, and he will probably get more. Even if Swift did accept an offer from the Rockets for the MLE, West would have matched it in a nanosecond. Swift is a steal at the MLE.

I was going to say the Knicks, but we gave them Moochie and they had Shandon. They will never trade with the Rockets again.

If I remember correctly, Swift didn't really want to stay in Memphis. They already had Gasol and would have to play backup or C.

Does anyone know what kind of deal Memphis gave him at the end?

    Hey, I can dream, can't I ;).

Plus, look at someone like Donyell Marshall in Toronto...he is hardly playing...

Houston trades: PF Juwan Howard (7.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 0.5 apg in 19.6 minutes)
Houston receives: PF Donyell Marshall (8.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 0.8 apg in 20.8 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +0.9 ppg, +1.4 rpg, and +0.3 apg.

Toronto trades: PF Donyell Marshall (8.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 0.8 apg in 20.8 minutes)
Toronto receives: PF Juwan Howard (7.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 0.5 apg in 19.6 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -0.9 ppg, -1.4 rpg, and -0.3 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Houston and Toronto being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Toronto had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Throw in two 2nd round picks, 1 million in cash...bingo.

Exactly what I was thinking. Donyell is kinda stuck in no man's land in Toronto. Marshall has always put up good numbers, has averaged 10rpg a couple times in his career.

Also, he can shoot the 3-ball. :D

I seriously think that if we could get PJ from New Orleans and Donyell from Toronto, most of our problems might be solved. We would still need an upgrade at PG next year, but I think we would make the playoffs this year.

These two guys are outstanding rebounders and good defenders. They would be perfect.
