I was just thinking about this, i know it's pretty obvious, but I wanted to get yalls take on this matter:

    Houston Rockets main rotation:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Starting Point Guard: Aaron Brooks - scoring pg
Back-Up Point Guard: Kyle Lowry - pass-first (defensive) pg

Starting Shooting Guard: Kevin Martin - scoring sg
Back-Up Shooting Guard: Shane Battier? - defensive sg

Starting Small Forward: Trevor Ariza - defensive sf
Back-Up Small Forward: Chase Budinger - scoring sf

Starting Power Forward: Luis Scola - scoring pf
Back-Up Power Forward: Jared Jefferies - defensive pf

Starting Center: Chuck Hayes - defensive c
    Back-Up Center: David Andersen - scoring c
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, I went out on a limb to say that Battier would the the back-up 2-guard since Martin is playing great in the starting lineup and i'm sure that Adelman will start Ariza over Battier, though I'd rather him not. If you look at our bench, the players are the complete opposite that we're bringing off the bench compared to our starters. Do yall think this is a good thing? Or do yall think we need more of the same combinations? (like having a scoring pf & another scoring pf or whatever)

P.S: just went off of this season's active roster, so i didn't include yao but it still would've been an opposite with yao starting and hayes coming off the bench.

What a great observation it allows so much flexibility for Rick Adelman to choose from, if he needs more Offense he has it, more defense he has it.

    Nice post.

    Well, what about Yao?

Oh, never mind we will worry about that next year...unless we trade Yao for Bosh.

    ;)

At this point Battier needs to come off the bench and play decreased minutes; I think we have all seen that he is more productive / fresher when coming off a days rest.

To be clear; we still need Battier on this team.

I only see one mistake in your post.....

Youve listed David Anderson as a scoring center.

16 pts in 22 mins last game. He has some scoring potential.

Well that's what he is. He's basically for spacing the floor and bothering people with his length, nothing more.

    Interesting observation. :)

I would say that is about creating a balanced roster. Morey knows the value of players with one strength, so he balances those with offensive strength to those with defensive strengths to give coach more weapons to work with.

I definitely think the balance is a good thing... it means that our bench and our starting rotation can cover both sides of the ball. If we had a scoring pf and a scoring pf, then we better have a corresponding defensive combo to match.

I think even with Yao back next year this theory could still work.
Yao offers a defensive presence in the paint, which is so direly needed. Yet he also offers some nice offensive game for when the Guards aren't hitting.

So either way, you can switch him with a defensive or an offensive back up depending on your opponent and it wouldn't matter.

I got your sarcasm, but just to be safe I think a smiley would be needed in the GARM to signal sarcasm. Serious GARM is serious. :)

The thing is, RA is not a defensive coach.

If we can somehow readopt JVG's defensive philosophy, then our defensive players will actually make the impact we are looking for. Right now, our defense is pretty atrocious.

I think Battier will be more effective in the second unit, think about it, he has no particular "go to" moves, but he still is an smarter player than the average, he will be more effective in a running/motion system where the shots are taken within the flow of the offense.

I think it would be nice to see him running along C-Bud and Lowry, he could even play the 4 depending on the matchups, having him and Andersen moving the defense with his dangerous outside shot and effectively cleaning the paint for Budinger and Lowry´s slashing

yeah you're right, i'm sure he wouldn't make a big fuss about moving to the bench because he just wants to win ball games and his defensive specialty coming off the bench would really help the bench out when they're struggling to score or the opposing team has a manu ginobili, jamal crawford, type of bench player.

well our defense right now has nothing to do with coach adelman because it's just injuries holding us back, when lowry ariza and battier come back then we'll see how things go. if we're still lacking at the defensive side of the ball (though we did pretty good defensively against the raptors) then you're right haha... ;)

Do not really like this rotation at all. Looking it half full, Rick can pick players to adapt to that particular time. Looking at it half empty, Rox will always have a disadvantage on 1 side of the court for the whole game.
