Anyone on the board live there? The short of it is that I got accepted to graduate school at Carnegie Mellon -- Information Systems. I had other things I wanted to do more, but I really can't pass this up. CMU was my #1, and they're giving me a nice scholarship for starters. Unfortunately, I've got to haul ass to get everything together -- class starts on May 16th. So are there any fellow Tartans on the board? Damn, I can't stand that my school's "mascot"?? is plaid fabric . . . Tartans are also a type of ship or a general, but I don't really think that's important . . . Tartans . . . ugh! Anyone familiar with Pittsburgh? I'm going to check it out in mid March.
GO TARTANS! .....you can imagine to yourself you are saying Titans or something. Anyways, congrats dude.
I've been living in Pittsburgh the last several months. What would you like to know? We should meet up to watch a Rockets game when you get to town.
Congrats on grad school!!! I live in Pittsburgh, fairly close to CMU. I went to the University of Pittsburgh, which is right there with CMU. Pittsburgh is a small city, with very distinct neighborhoods. I love it here, and I think there is a lot to do, but everyone has his/her own opinions. Good luck finding a rockets game unless its on TNT/ESPN!!!
First off congrats on CMU! It's a great school. I'm looking to move up there as well as I'm awaiting decisions on law apps at Duquesne and Pitt. Everyone I've spoken too has nothing but good things to say about the city, except about the weather of course.
Thanks everyone -- Batman Jones, Beck, and Phillyrocket -- we should try to hook up for an Rockets/NBA Finals (we can hope) game.
Congrats, Vengeance! I could never see myself living there as it is too far north which means bad winters (at least what I am used to experiencing). First day of March here in middle Tennessee and it is f*cking brutal outside (windchill of around 20 to 25 degrees). Just when I thought winter was about over.
I never knew we had any other people from Pittsburgh on this board. If, I mean when, the rockets make the finals, we need to get together for the games!!!
Let's get together for the first round. beck: What part of town do you live in? Vengeance: Are you going to live on campus? If not, I'd recommend the Bloomfield/Garfield neighborhood where I'm living. Let us know if you want us to handicap some neighborhoods for you. gr8-1: Relative to its size, Pittsburgh is very cultured. There's a lot of old family money in this town and the foundations are very supportive of the arts. There's a major symphony, opera and ballet. Tons of museums, including the Andy Warhol Museum and the very cool Mattress Factory. As much theater as there is in Houston and tons of small to mid size theaters, dance companies, a small opera group, etc. And there's history everywhere. I was surprised to see how beautiful the town was. Also impressed with the way different cultures interact here, particularly coming from a segregated-by-neighborhood town like Houston. No pro basketball though. That kind of sucks.
Batman Jones, I live in the Regent Square area, so we're on the same side of the city. I'd gladly get together for some first round games.
I used to live in Edgewood, Beck. I've shot much pool and thrown many darts at Murphy's. I like Regent Square. We'll figure out a game when they announce the playoff schedules. You in, Vengeance?
