Ya know...I have absolutely NO problem with what Israel did. The PLO brutely killed innocent athletes. An eye for an eye as far as I'm concerned. A lot of people are mad because Spielberg portrayed the terrorists as human beings with passion. Well ya know what? Passion is one thing terrorists don't lack. I thought the movie was done well and I felt not one ounce of remorse for any of the killings and if I can put a bullet in Bin Laden's head right now, I wouldn't hesitate one second on pulling the trigger and I would sleep very very good that night. Thoughts?
i've got the movie...but damn, i don't have 3 hours to watch it. well, maybe i do but i just don't have the patience.
I have no problems taking out terrorist who did an attack on your country either. But some of the people they began assasinating were suspect. There was a special on this where a few members of the Israeli hit squad questioned who they were killing. If they were actually part of the terrorist plot or not.
DT and I watched that movie the other day. We had absolutely NO CLUE what it was about and we certainly didn't know it was going to be that freakin' long. But keeping the length in mind, I thought it was a good movie.
The dutch girl dying is pretty much one of the most gruesome death scenes I have ever seen in a movie. It's so real and her reaction is amazing!
That's Spielberg. He does the little things, like her going over and kissing her cat after she's been blasted, that humanize the characters. And like she said, it was such a waste.
i saw it like a month ago and i thought it was good, but way too long. you can understand why israel did what they did, but you can also understand why the hired israeli asassins questioned some of the people they were told to kill.
I think one important theme that is mentioned but overlooked as in life, is that violence begets violence. An eye for an eye. When will it end and does it matter? And in the end you saw how the violence affected the main character. I think the sex scene at the end was a way of rationalising/justifying/purging the violence that the character was surrounded and involved in. It's a very good movie and that doesn't take any sides.
I think the message of the movie was that 'violence begets more violence'. The two parties are no closer to peaceful coexistence today than they were over three decades ago. The cycle of violence is still very much alive. I think Spielberg, is his own way, is denouncing the stubbornness of both sides in this conflict, and questioning whether or not an endless cycle of 'revenge killings' is the best form of justice, or if it's justice at all. I think he's providing the warring parties with a chance to take a moment, pause, and reflect on whether or not it's been 'worth it'. I honestly think his intentions were admirable, I watched the movie and had no problem with it, although I don't think everyone would have the stomach to sit through all that violence and bloodshed, so if you haven't watched the movie yet, be advised...
The movie is riddled with factual inaccuracies. I believe at the end they mentioned that the Israelis got all members of the Black Sept. Organization who were responsible for what happened at the Olympics, but that's false. Jamal Al Gashey is still alive and living in Africa and was interviewed in this documentary: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000059H77/102-7027707-0221738?v=glance&n=130 Also, no mention of the Lillehammer Affair: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lillehammer_affair But then again it's just a movie so take it for what it's worth...entertainment.
Agreed. I really liked how they filmed the movie. Denzel is really smooth in that film. Little Fanning is going to be a good actress when she is older. But the best film involving revenge is... "The Usual Suspects"... God I love Keyser Soze!
i really liked Man on Fire. but i have one question: *****SPOILER ALERT************ what was up with the ending? it sure didn't seem like an even exchange giving up his (Washington) own life AND the brother just for the girl. what's teh rationale behind it?
Man on Fire is an awesome movie. About the ending. There is an alternate ending that's slightly different. Whereas the theatrical ending just ends with Creasy riding in the car looking at the mountain, the alternate ending has him taken back to the home of "The Voice". Creasy sits down on the couch and looks at his watch , then the entire house is blown apart by the explosive which he has hidden in his ass. I'm thinking that Creasy may have been mortally wounded by the gunshot at the brother's house, and this was a way that he could rescue the girl, and take out "The Voice" and his brother in the process.
yea... i wouldn't have any problems with bringing justice to the terrorist, but in a more sanctioned way. what happened with the lillehammer affair is exactly why we need due process.
