what is the consensus on troy patton after his first taste of the bigs? i absolutely have no idea what took place with this team after the all-star break due to the fact that i'm a fairweather fan. did he play to expectations? does he project as a #2/#3 or is he looking like a back of the rotation guy?

I think the Astros rotation currently looks like this:

    Oswalt>>>>>>>>>everybody else.

No one on this team really qualifies as a number 2. I'm thinking Patton will probably fight with Sampson and Wandy for a number 3 or 4 spot with Woody sliding into the number 5...Backe will probably take the 2 spot...unless they make a major move.

Pitched reasonable well. low 4 era. was shut down due to a tired arm. The concern about his projectability stem from his decline in velocity and strike out rates as he's moved up the system. From what i've gathered, most analysis outside the organization view him now as more of a 3/4 than a 2/3, but obviously that could change. Overall he pitched pretty well and actually threw a little harder in his big league starts. I bet he's at the back of the rotation starting next april.
