Everybody's thrown in their 2 cents in the Hakeem Ceremony thread and the other thread that was bumped from 2 years ago.

I just want concrete ideas from the naysayers. What would you have actually designed instead of just pissing and moaning "Well, they could have been more creative" without giving an actual suggestion. No half ass suggestions that aren't fully thought out, and we still have to obey the Islam rules.

I just have a funny feeling the naysayers' ideas are going to be weak, IMO.

BTW, I mentioned my idea in the other thread. I suggested a large #3 and #4 statues, for the simplistic yet unmistakeable sign of who's arena you are entering. But I still think the present statue is good enough.

I would have matthaus write the dedication statement.

    It would begin like this...

If you are serious, sorry but that sucks. If not, that still sucks.

    And what about the monument?

I woulda liked to see a statue with him and his teammates, but more emphasis on him, I guess..kinda hard to say because of his religious preferences how that would work, but I think the monument they made for him was just fine.

I should have read that paragraph.

Anyways, Hakeem said that we couldn't make any "idol" in the likeness of him, so why not a statue of his teammates from 93' holding up his MVP trophy?

Just to add for those who might not be aware of why The Dream would not let the Rockets build a statue of his likeness, it is because in Islam, you are not allowed to build statues in your likeness since it would be like they (the fans) would be worshiping you throw your statue.

Now that that is out of the way, I don't think the statue they built in his honor is bad or anything. It actually looks really cool from the video Hiltopper posted. Now that is my next goal, get to Houston to watch a Rockets game at the TC and take a picture with the statue. :D

Ok, that was cute 400 posts ago, but can we finally seriously think of a plausible idea that won't violate Islam rules?

Hey wait a second, how does it not make sense? It's like the 86 Rockets vs. Lakers all over again. You know, los angeles rockets war feelings?

Makes total sense to me. I just forgot the monument part that's all.

Sorry, but I've read enough of your posts and determined that what makes sense you doesn't necessarily makes sense to civilization, much less the clutchfans bbs.

Could they have used a silhouette of him? Make it sort of like an iPod character wearing the Olajuwon jersey.

So Hakeem's monument would have everyone BUT Hakeem in it?

Is it against islam to have a statue of only his head? Like sitting on a big cube? Also, the cube would have a motor inside with a shaft that sticks up into the head so it slowly rotates. It would be as if he's looking around the whole city, kind of keeping an eye on us.

About six foot tall (~3 foot cube and three foot head)? Maybe some islamic inscriptions etc on the cube as a concession, in case the head itself is somewhat frowned upon.

It would be kind of creepy though, at night.

    Winner.

I was gonna say just take the old monument and blow it up so it's taller than Toyota center, but this does the trick.

    Fail. It wasn't even funny.

I suppose we can have the 2001 Space Odyssey Theme/Ric Flair theme in the background of the monument, while Hakeem saying "Unbeatable" in an endless loop.

The only way to have done it otherwise is to have some abstract statue representing a dream with the words Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon.
