College football's first big weekend has not really produced any surprises. Oklahoma, Texas, Florida State, Tennessee, and Nebraska all won easily. Florida is winning easily. However, the team that has really been impressive has been Miami. I'm a little biased, but having to play Penn State in their new renovated stadium with Adam Taliaferro leading them out and that Paterno only needs to win 1 more game to tie Bear Bryant for the all-time win record definitely gave Penn State the emotional and intangible edge. Remember, the last time a Miami coach made his debut on prime time, it was in 1995 and it wasn't pretty. UCLA crushed the Canes in Butch Davis's debut 31-8.

However, Larry Coker had them ready to play. The defense has been suffocating, Sievers has already 3 field goals, and Dorsey has been magnificent throwing 3 touchdown passes. How bad is it for PSU? ABC decided to switch to Wisconsin-Oregon after the half because it's a more "competitive" game, a move that pisses me off to no end. Only those in Florida and Pennsylvania will get to see the 2nd half of Miami-Penn State. Barring a miraculous comeback by the Nittany Lions, Miami took a huge step in being a major player for the National Championship. The next big test comes 2 weeks from now when they get a chance to get revenge on Washington at the Orange Bowl.

On another note, Beano Cook must be the worst college football expert ever! I can't believe that this fool honestly believed that Penn State was going to beat Miami! I know that PSU had all the intangibles, but Miami had so much more talent that it wasn't even a ballgame. You got to hand it to ESPN. It's like they dug this guy up and propped him up in an "off-campus" site. Seriously, I think about everyone here on the BBS could do a better job in covering College Football than this fossil! PSU beating Miami--that's rich right there!! Keep up the good work, Beano. Hey, isn't Beano the name of the mascot for Texas?

D: I know, I just was being a smarta**. However, I think Bevo knows how to pick college football better than Beano.

    A Texas-Miami National Title game??

No way my friend. I was at the game last night, and you could smell the stink the offense put up. Except for the drive right before halftime, the Horns offense blew. If we'd played a quality team, we'd been in trouble.

Simms needs to practice those famous Montana quick outs. He fudged them all up. Plus, his slant passes suck also. You lead the out, not throw it behind him. And how about keeping the ball down? I don't think they should've put Major in at the end. He came in and did a great job. Simms confidence is probably shot.

Simms - Go practice with your dad!
