I specify rap because I’ve never been the biggest “conscious” rapper fan (other than Black Star) who tend to separate themselves as hip hop artists. I think it falls on two parties.

    1. The “other” community
“Our” community was doing a great job of buying and more importantly DECIDING for OURSELVES who was good. Now it seems like rappers are shoved down our throats. Guys are overhyped and get pushed by their record companies so that if you plan on listening to the radio or watching tv for the next month then you will be bombarded with the next IT guy.

    2. Jay-Z
I know it sounds like the old MJ killed basketball theory but I think this is a little different. Jigga wasn’t particularly innovative, Pac and Biggie did what he did for gangsta rap better than him. I think he emphasized the drug game and an excessive lifestyle way too much and everyone has since followed suit.

Am i wrong? What do you think's killing rap?

No creativity with the lyrics and just a lot of stupid people that don't know what they're doing just spitting crap out of their arses trying to make a quick buck. Btw, I thought it's "hip hop" now... or am I just getting too old?

Jay Z sucks btw. I don't even know how he's able to score with Beyonce. I actually think the old Eminem is 10 times better than Jay Z at his best.

Rap is really bad these days. Hardly any creativity or originality. And when there is a good song you hear it 1,000,000 times.

For every good one, you run into a hundred 50cents and all those crappy ones that start with "Lil"

Remember when rap was happy back when Will Smith was still young?

What's up with people lying about killing people, as if its a good thing. There's also the people lying about how much money they have and how they were drug kingpins when they really just sold weed in high school.

Probably the most annoying, lame thing in today's rap.

Clubs killed rap. People these days use rap to dance to and club with, not for social commentary.
