****, ever. Seriously, its freaking ice cut into small pieces with added flavors, which BY THE WAY, happens to turn your tongue into whatever cancerous colored agent is added to your ice. Also, all of this sinks to the bottom, so what you have left is a cone of ice floating above a pool of radioactive juice. Why do people insist on shelling out 4$ for it? Go get ice cream instead, or a nice cold coke.
Snow cones are tasty, especially on a hot day. I think they problem you're experiencing is that you're paying way too much money for one.
turkish???? But, seriously, if you're paying $4 for a "snow cone", you've FAILED, my friend. And if the flavor "sinks" to the bottom, you're taking too long to eat it out (that's what she said ).
There was never anything more annoying than getting a snow cone on a hot day and having the crushed ice melt together into a big ass ball that was hard as a rock. Then you'd try to bite it and you'd either break your teeth or sprain your jaw. Once they came out with shaved ice things got a lot better, but still junk.
We have a Mexican snow cone stand by the taquerias down the street from my work, and a large is like $1.50. They RULE. You're gettin' ripped for ice. Bubblegum/Cherry/Extra Cream, delicious.
Anybody had real shaved Hawaiian ice. Like they have a big block of ice and this big blade and shave it really thin. Its awesome. Most places here that say the have Hawaiian ice are lying to you.
If you're ever in Philly, try some water ice... it's a distant cousin, but it's far better than any snow cone I've ever had.
If you think $4 is bad I was at a festival on Sunday with my two cousins, ages 6 and 8. They wanted an Italian Ice so I ended up shelling out $5.50 for what was nothing more than a large snow cone with blue coloring in a bowl. Regular snow cones I am not a big fan for similar reasons as expressed by the OP, but I do like Ice Kacang's which are Malay shaved ice with all sorts of other stuff on them.
EDIT: black??? I lived near a 'corner store' in 5th Ward that ALWAYS had them. DELICIOUS... Ah, yes... today's first POOP thread is a-brewin'... I suppose LonghornFan is near a Tampico's on a 'hispanic?' area of town.
I work off I-10 and Federal. The taqueria stands are like heaven to my taste buds. I am in love with the breakfast burritos and the "real" tacos. For like $2.50 I can fill the belly with a grin.
