Did anybody watch SNL the season premier last night? My impression: The opening Bush sketch is not that funny. This new guy Bill Hader is very promising. He did some great impersonation last night. Is it just me or there is a guy looking like Derek Fisher? Amy Poehler is hot. Rachel Dratch is getting fatter by the season. Horatio Sanz needs to do better in Weekend Update. The John Roberts cartoon is the funniest of the night. The Celebrity/Katrina sketch is hilarious, though maybe a little insensitive? The computer animation is the only funny part in the Jet Blue sketch. Your thoughts?
Missed it, didn't know the opener was on Saturday. Actually stayed in last night, because I was pretty mugged-out after the Notre Dame game. Co-incidentally, I spent 11pm-3am reading the Tom Shales book on SNL that I finally bought.
Where was Tina Fey? I thought it was funny when Kayen West ran into Mike Myers on his way out to perform.
You didn't comment on the Kanye West & Mike Myers intro to Kanye's performance. How'd you like that? "Hey, Mike... what's going on...? Everything good?" "Yeah, everything good... [nervous] i haven't seen you since... man... I don't know... how long, Kanye..." "You mean the Katrina telethon?" "Uh, yeah... that was it... I've only had the FBI, the CIA and the IRS after me..." AWESOME.
Excellent point. His exact words were: "Oh, and they also took away my American CITIZENSHIP... [snickers]... but at least I still have my Canadian one to get by, eh?" p.s. The INS is no longer, it's the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) now.
i get a high-school-production-ish feeling when i watch SNL these days. the acting is subpar and the scripts usually don't live up to potential of the topic. the big black guy (not sure what his name is) - is it just me or does he have NO talent?? granted, having different colors and sizes of people does give more to work with. another thing - is it just me or do they used that same restaurant setting at LEAST two or three times each episode?
This show was very weak. As mentioned, Fey had a kid and won't be back for awhile. They will miss her writing. Horatio was horrible on Weekend Update. Also, Maya Rudolph is 7 months pregnant and won't be around much longer. Btw, ASHLEE SIMPSON is singing next week. The Napolean Dynomite guy is the guest host.
I thought it was one of the best shows they have done in quite some time.. The Smith/Barney bit had me LMAO.. I'm a huge SNL buff and have been for years, people always say.. "The show isn’t as good as it used to be", but then a few years later when a few people get big and they re-air the shows on E! (or Comedy Central 3 years ago) they think the skits are GREAT and the current ones stink.. I remember when people thought the show was lame about 7-8 years ago then Will Ferrell gets big and suddenly all the previous shows he was on are some of the best.. My point is the show is still good, most just recognize quality until they hear everyone else saying it's funny.. BTW. Tina Fey isn’t responsible for as much writing as you think, Tina did make a name for herself on SNL writing wise 6ish years ago now she just does most of weekend update and most of the sketches she stars in, but nothing like the fulltime writing role she used to have.. Dennis McNicholas and the cast do the bulk of the writing… they are the ones that should get the glory and criticism… The cast are the ones responsible for coming up with ideas and picking their costars for the sketches then they go to the writers to hammer out the sketches.. Lorne and the writers don’t just come up with bits and toss actors out there, the cast are the ones responsible for most of the show..
SNL has outlived it's usefulness as entertaining television. They need new writers, actors and most definitely need new music talent bookers.
My favorite part of the show is that brief second before they start airing Live at the Apollo (Showtime or something like that) and realizing the most wasted 1 hour of my week is about to begin
The whole show was just awful. I'm usually pretty forgiving as far as SNL goes but, for a season premiere, this just flat out stunk. Losing Tina didn't help any. It's unfortunate that there wasn't a cast shake-up cause this current group isn't very good. They had to pull the Mike Myers/Kanye West stunt just to get a laugh out of me. No TIVO space required for this show apparently. Maybe Christopher Walken should have opened the premiere. I thought this other guy hosting stunk as well. He should go join a soap opera.
Do you know who the other guy was? He's kinda funny.. I know he's no Walken and there wont be a skit out of the new show as famous as "The Continental" or "Cowbell", but he's not a total waste like Tom Brady or Britney Spears were on the show. I thought for a first time host Steve held his own..
That's a whole new show. Except for the studio, of course. So who's a top blues guy they can have on the show? The late BB is out of the question now; that's the only Blues person I knew.
I liked the Tom Brady one! Maybe b/c I think he's cute, but the ones where he was dancing and singing were funny. And the office/harrassment skit was funny too.
I don't think I've watched a whole SNL show in at least a year. It's just a waste of time right now because funny skits are too few and far between to be bothered with. Ever since Ferrell left its just been getting worse and worse. Maybe someday they'll right the ship, but I wont be sitting through the crap waiting for them to get it right.
