Is the self proclaimed she-wolf a good enough reason to watch? <object width="512" height="296"><param name="movie" value="http://www.hulu.com/embed/LWk2UaevJ1S0ChLBv5U3CQ"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.hulu.com/embed/LWk2UaevJ1S0ChLBv5U3CQ" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" width="512" height="296"></embed></object>
Shakira sure knows how to contort her body. And wow @ the Bud Light Wheat overload. Talk about repetition.
I actually thought this was one of the better ones this season. The Beauty and the Beast sketch was actually funny.
There ended up being a few good moments, but the show pacing was horrible. There seemed to be too many commercial breaks and I didn't like the past show bloopers. That's just proof they are having a hard time coming up with good material. What up with that? <object width="512" height="296"><param name="movie" value="http://www.hulu.com/embed/OxSKp04Pco-5FOuPGd-R_w"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.hulu.com/embed/OxSKp04Pco-5FOuPGd-R_w" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" width="512" height="296"></embed></object>
Eh... what else are you going to put in its place at 11:30 pm on a Saturday night? Even if it only has one good sketch a week... or one good digital short a month... that's still better than the alternative. Its already outlived all the copycats (in living color, mad tv)... and they still get top-line hosts and musical guests each year. Plus, the regular cast talent is one of the highest overall quality its ever been (Kristen Wiig is approaching "best female ever on snl" status, Armisen is approaching Phill Hartman "diverse characters" status, and Seth Myers is owning weekend update now). I never understood the weekly and yearly hate for this show... its not like its taking up time that could be used for a much better show/concept. Plus, when it hits on something good, everybody ends up talking about it.
There probably isn't anything better to put on but it's still sucks. The cast may well be very talented, but I can't tell because the writing is so bad. Are there no good writers out there? Dave Chappelle showed that you can still do funny sketch shows.
But did he have to come up with material for a live show week after week, all the while utilizing the talents (or non-talent) of a guest host? And, in the end, we saw what happened with the Chapelle show, when you try to make every single sketch a "classic"... you burn out. The digital shorts on SNL remind me very much of Chapelle's quality. They are pre-taped, and often times have been in development for awhile. Its no wonder that the overall quality of those is better than most of the live sketches. Also, not every classic SNL sketch started out as a classic... the cowbell sketch was buried (if i recall) towards the latter half of the show (where you put the bad sketches), and it's getting better each and every time it gets shown. Same goes for Barry Gibb talk show. Finally, as much as people say the "quality" or "writing" has dropped off... you can't deny that SNL still serves as a proven spring-board towards future success... far more than any other sitcom or other sketch show. The alumni list is staggering.
Shakira is super hot, but the reality is she's not that great a dancer. She's not very rhythmic. The same is true for Beyonce and Britney Spears.
The dress rehearsal stuff they were showing was part of the episode being sponsored by Bud and their new beer. Normally a commercial would have aired during that point, so how is it proof they are struggling to come up with material? That secretary sketch is proof.
