"Houston, Indiana, Detroit, San Antonio and both L.A. teams have been mentioned as possible trading partners for the Magic if T-Mac decides to leave. The Rockets are dangling Steve Francis. The Pacers likely would offer anything on their roster besides Jermaine O'Neal or Ron Artest. The Pistons have enough cap room to swallow a big deal and also could offer Richard Hamilton, Mehmet Okur (in a sign-and-trade) and even Darko Milicic in return. The Clippers could offer Corey Maggette, Quentin Richardson (in a sign-and-trade) and the No. 2 pick in the draft."
If McGrady is traded, then so will Grant Hill and none of the teams other than the Rockets can make Orlando as good a deal because of our trade exception. Orlando would have to take back a bunch of scrubs to match the salaries and a rebuilding team does not want scrubs.
"I wish they would just trade me already" Steve Francis overheard in Toyota Center by unnamed Rockets employee and BBS poster...
if tmac doesent want to go to a place were everything is set then isnt houston his best bet. All those other teams mentioned are already pretty good.
if i were detroit, i would never trade rip for tmac....i think the current pistons team has great chemistry, adding a superstar(s) (i.e. Lakers) doesn't always help...
T-mac aint resigning with no damn Clippers, so there out of the picture. If Detroit wins the championship, forget about them messing with that chemistry. If Tracy says, hey, I want out of here, trade me'...it's between Houston and Indiana.
If it's between Houston and Indiana and the Pacers aren't willing to give up Artest, then I like our chances.
i dont think we would have a good chance. Pacers have a stockpile of talent on their bench. But we have the adavantage in that tmac wants to come to a place where everything is not set yet, Indiana was already a 61 win team.
i think when he said that he was talking about the lakers and spurs. he said he didnt want to go to a place that can already win a championship. he wants to be the final part. if he went to the pacers he would be the final part IMO. what can indy offer? al, bender, fred jones, filler...doesnt beat our offer.
After reviewing this info: Indiana: Francis/Cato is better than anything I'm seeing here, such as Harrington/Tinsley/Bender. Detroit: For Detroit to have cap room for TMac, they'd have to lose RW. So, in effect, Detroit gives up RW, Okur, Darko, and Hamilton. I'm not sure Detroit would do that. But, if I'm Orlando, that would be tempting, although they've already got 2 PFs, and they don't need Darko, and he's unproven. So, I'd still take Francis/Cato or Cat over that, especially if Houston threw in the TE. LAL: How could they do a trade? The only thing they have worth trading is Kobe or McNeal, and I don't see either one wanting to go to ORL, unless McGrady is still there. LAC: Now ORL might like the package of #2/Maggette/Q, but, LAC would have to trade more than that to make the salaries work out, and to be honest, I'd still take a proven commodity like Francis, over the #2 pick. But, that is the most comparable trade. If ORL traded either Howard or Gooden to CHA for the #4, they could have 3 of the first four picks in the 2004 draft. Talk about rebuilding. Pick Okafor, Howard and Livingston, move Howard to center, and you've got Howard, Gooden and Okafor rotating at C/PF, Maggette, Q and Stephenson rotating at SF/SG and Livingston to grow into the PG behind Lue, as well as their 2- 2nd round picks, such as Ha-Seung Jin, Huertas or Duhon. But, I just don't see LAC doing it, unless Tmac agrees to sign an extension, which I seriously doubt he would do. So, even if ORL wanted to do it, I don't see that happening. (Why is it that the more talent LAC has, the more they lose?) San Antonio: This one might be more trouble for us. I know that TMac said he wanted to go where he would be the difference between them winning a championship or not, in terms of his legacy, but earlier he included them in his list. He really likes Duncan, and they could win a bunch more championships over the next number of years. Orlando would have to like Parker/Ginobli/Nesterovic/Bowen, which SA would probably offer. The only way we could beat that, would be to take Hill and give ORL our TE. I see SA as our biggest competitor. It would be just as important to keep McGrady from going to SA, as it would be to get him for ourselves. If he goes to SA, I don't see us winning the Championship for many years no matter who we got for Francis or how much Yao improves, although Texas would possibly have the best teams in the league.
I don't know if I understand correctly. Are you saying that the Pacers wouldn't trade Artest straight up for McGrady? Don't get me wrong, Artest is a great player and does a lot of things that McGrady can't do, but putting McGrady and O'Neal together with the rest of that team would be WAY too good to pass up. That being said, I think that Francis makes more sense for Indiana, as it would be a major upgrade for them at the point guard where they're not very deep.
So San Antonio would be completely blown up, losing all their starters but TD. You're asking them to give up way too much. And Orlando would be screwed when they figure out that these four are nothing but role players without a powerhouse in the low post. Might as well trade for Shandon Anderson. I know a Spurs fan that is convinced that Parker/Ginobli is a better package than Francis/Cato or Francis/Mobley. Let's face it, Francis can carry a team, and Parker can't. Mobley is a more proven but shorter version of Ginobli. Cato is a true center, and SA ain't gonna offer Nesterovic without an equivalent big in return. I don't see Orlando handing McGrady over to one of the two teams in the EC Finals either. Might as well sign your own death warrant.
We haven't gotten rid of anyone yet. The only reason we would trade Francis is if we got someone better like Tmac.
