A friend of mine was telling me about this sneaker boutique in Boston - the concept of the store is awesome! Anyone who is familiar with sneaker culture knows that these sneaker boutiques don't advertise at all and usually don't have anything on their front door or window display just to keep their limited edition/custom sneakers unique. The only way to really find out about these place is through blogs or word of mouth... Well this store Bodega in Boston look like a small "bodega" or convenience store from the outside. You walk in and they sell things like laundry detergent, chips, and soda. If you walk to the back of the store, you'll see a vending machine with a loose tile infront of it. You have to step on the tile and the vending machine rotates 180 degrees and opens up to the ultra-sleek sneaker boutique! Check out the pictures here: Bodega I'm thinking of opening something like this in Houston...I think it would be a real success in a city that's lacking this sort of thing...
It sounds stupid to me, but... I'm not your target audience. I wouldn't go into a store like that if it was highly advertised and perfectly clear what they were selling.
we need something like this down here because Premium Goods' prices rape. I wanted to open a shoe store in Houston but don't have enough collateral. I wanted to talk to the guys from Motive807 in Austin to expand down here. Do it and price your stuff reasonably and you shoudl be fine.
speaking of sneakers, I saw these shows yesterday in finsh line called "ice cream." WTF? They were the ugliest things I have ever seen. What man wants pink shoes?
So its a hidden shop with premium brand names in the back of a corner market. How is anyone sure that what they are selling is legit?
It would be cool if only a secret code would get you into the shoe store. Or maybe you have to buy a certain brand of cereal from the corner shop and the owner will know you are wanting to enter the store.
This man: And from Drop it like it's hot with Snoop: I'm a nice dude, with some nice dreams See these ice cubes, see these Ice Creams? That sounds like a good idea, would love to see some sneaker stores down in the dirty...
haha, yeah i used to work at Finish Line in the Galleria and we sold those Ice Creams...they are designed by Pharrell - some of them are cool looking, but yeah, i agree with you...those blue/pink/yellow ones are just plain ugly...
the whole "grocery store" facade is just a front...when you go inside the actual boutique, you know it's legit...
