If you never smoked and you have come to preach, then go away. You don't understand how significant this is to many people. Go have tea with THE MAN.

I know Fatty had a thread, but I wanted a poll.

On New Year's Eve, my brother was out emptying every place he could find his brand of smokes. I thought about doing that and then I thought that that's exactly what THE MAN wants me to do.

I told my brother and he said that I could hand over the smokes. I told him that I will not contribute to someone else's nasty habit and that I would sacrifice myself, until they are done. That's just the kind of guy I am.

I've been smoking since I was a young teen and am not quitting because it is bad for me. If you want to go out and suck down alfalfa sprouts, be my guest. I have 3 packs left. After they are done, my smoking career will come to an end.

Count me in as one of those that quit for money reasons. It was either save ~100 per month and quit, or pay more than 130. I choose to save the money and raise a middle-finger high and dry to THE MAN.

I'm not buying them online either. I'm quitting and I'm not using a patch. If I suffer, you will too. If you don't like it, talk to THE MAN.

I have another addendum to my daily prayers.

I wish you luck too, unless you plan on spending the extra money. That is what THE MAN wants you to do. Sure he will say that smoking is bad for you while sticking bills in his pocket.

THE MAN just gave me a $1,500 per year raise with a clause.

Im having a party for a few friends birthday on the 13th, i have a carton that i will smoke out of until then, after that its over. Both of my little brothers quit and a handful of friends because of the tax hike.

Not really. I probably go through a couple packs a week, so it's not going to affect me too much. I'm currently taking medication that's supposed to curb my appetite for nicotine, but my addiction is more towards the habit of smoking rather than the nicotine.

I hope the smokers keep it up....I own stock in Altria (Phillip Morris) and want it to continue to go up. So as long as it is a Marlbro, light up & smoke away!

No I don't smoke, everybody knows that it will kill ya! :)

    Nobody likes a quitter.

BTW, having quit smoking many years ago, that $1,500+ raise and then some in the first year will go to gum, hard candy, soda, and anything else that you can use to partially satisfy your oral fixation.

Marlboro Lights are now $4.50 a pack at the convenience store near my house.

    Glad I stopped on 11/22/06.

For those considering stopping....cold turkey is the only way to go. Patches, nicorette gum, etc. only delay the inevitable.

I have been substituting peppermints when I get a craving, but even that is starting to subside.

Go for it! I smoked for 32 years. If I can stop, anyone can.

Have you tried the dark chocolate covered altoids? Those things are like crack.

Haven't bought a pack since NYE, so it hasn't affected me yet. Don't smoke that much anymore, so I'm guessing not much is going to change.

I don't smoke, but that's probably a mixture of I'm too cheap and its bad for you...Well, everything is bad for you nowadays, so maybe its because I'm cheap...A friend of mine from New Jersey smokes and on his trips, he'd load up on cigs as it was cheaper here...Not sure if the $1 hike changes that...

Good luck to those of you who will quit...
