I've read great things about this company, but I've also read nightmare stories regarding their service. How good/bad are they?

The price is great. Cellular costs the same as land line monitoring. I just don't know which one is better. Cellular monitoring is great until the weather turns ugly, and land line monitoring is starting to phase out because companies are pushing cellular. The companies are basically telling the whole world how to deactivate a land line home security system

Just wondering if anyone here is happy with Smith Thompson Security, and if so, do you have cellular or land line monitoring?

    thanks

I was thinking about them too since they aren't overpriced like ADT & Broadview (Brinks). Also, no long term (3 year) contract that auto renews. Just not too sure. I started looking at alternatives and you can buy the system online and install on your own and the find a monitoring company. The following are Alarm systems companies that seem to have good options and seem to be reliable: DMP, Honeywell/Ademco and DSC. GE is also used by most of the companies such as ADT.

    Can be bought at:
    http://www.alarmsystemstore.com/
    http://www.homesecuritystore.com/
    http://www.safemart.com/category-Alarm-Systems-3684.htm
    Also offer monitoring via VOIP

Two monitoring companies I found were AlarmRelay(com) and Nextalarm(com).
AlarmRelay provided the following affiliates that can install/program a system if you don't want to mess with installing yourself.

    They are:
Diamond Star Security 832-731-9659 Marvin Barahona
    Dukes Electronics 832-541-1408 Rolando Duque
    Lee Powers 832-428-3748 Lee Powers
Home Media Professionals 800-961-4203 Eugene Kessel
    Alarm Monitor 713-256-4468 Dick Babcock
Integrated Cabling Solutions 281-705-5829 John Conley

Here are some local companies I may checkout:

I just got Home Security Systems, Inc. installed and monitoring my house now and everything seems to work fine. My brother recommended this company to me because they monitor his house and the company he works for. The monthly monitoring rates were way more affordable than ADT's and Broadview's. So far in two weeks I've had 3 false alarms (letting out dogs in the morning via backdoor and forgetting to disarm alarm) and the call time is less than 15 secs.

    This is from their website:
Our monthly monitoring rates are very competitive at $23.00/month for basic monitoring and $38.00/month to $40.00/month for basic and wireless monitoring combined. There is just a one-year minimum contract required for basic monitoring and a one/two-year minimum contract required for basic and wireless monitoring combined.

So do you have a landline? If not, how much for just a wireless (cell unit) monitoring.

Sorry I should have clarified that I only use the landline monitoring option. If I did both the landline and wireless options (wireless is backup to landline) then it would've been $40. I believe the $38/mo is only if the wireless option is used.
