i'm not sure about this, but smashing pumpkins greatest hits, is there like a special edition with a bonus 2nd disc with rare songs? i think its called 'judas'. is it just an enhanced cd (for computer use) or a normal music cd? cos i saw one copy and its for the price of a normal one-disc cd.

    Yes, you are right.

The limited edition has a bonus CD (don't know about the enhanced part, but I'm assuming it has that) that is B-Sides & picks up "where Pisces Iscariot left off". It is known as Judas and the first disc is known as Rotten Apples.

Of course, the regular version has only 1 disc, the Rotten Apples.

That reminds me to pick up the limited edition ASAP!

Funny you should mention the Pumpkins...

And not to derail the thread, but I was thinking last night.

Who had the most success? In 1991 two great albums came out that changed my musical taste forever.

Smashing Pumpkins' Gish and Nirvana's Nevermind!

Both are great albums and both have their merits. But I've got to go with Gish as the better record.

Actually 1991 was a great year for music!

I broke out Gish for the first time in a while a couple of weeks ago. That album, start to finish, is still one of my favorites... I guess I needed to be reminded. It also evokes some great memories from my college <strike>binge</strike> experience.

The Greatest Hits CDs are good. It's nice to have most of the songs you like in the same place, as I think they did a good job with their song selection.

I lovedGish when it came out, but I don't think the songs are near as good as Nevermind. However, Gish is way cooler than anything else that Billy Corgan did after that. His lyrics became way too self-obsessed and cliched.

Gish is okay but Siamese Dream is the Pumpkins' greatest CD ever...and IMO, one of the greatest and friggin' brilliant CDs of all-time!

I have that CD. I bought it when it first came out. I let my friend borrow it in January, he hasn't returned it yet.

Careful Kam, I can't tell you how many albums I've lost to "friends" borrowing! In the hundreds!

Manny, agree about Dream! I think the pumpkins actually peaked about there. Don't get me wrong; I love pretty much everything they did. Pisces Iscariot actually runs a close second to Dream.

Gish? Well that just put them on the map for me!

Didn't Corgan play every instrument while recording "Siamese Dream"??
or is that just a rumor I heard somewhere?

Glad they will be remembered for being more than a Pearl Jam knock off (which isn't even remotely accurate)

someone do a poll, best pumpkins album/song ever

Billy played all the guitars and bass on both Gish and Siamese Dream because D'arcy and James Iha were completely incompetent. I guess that's to be expected, though, when you purposely pick your bandmates based on their appearance. He did not play the drums, however.

Siamese Dream was a very fresh album when it came out, due to its use of the Big Muff distortion pedal, which had been pretty much abandoned by most rock musicians. However, too many of the songs are basically the same chord progression and melody and no amount of fuzz guitar or massive overdubbing can cover that. So over the years, it just hasn't held up for me. And Billy's vocals are just too I'm 15 and depressed.

Funny enough, Billy wrote alot of the songs about some girl who had recently broke up with him. After the album, they reunited and married. Then Billy dumped her for some model. What a genuine guy.

But I still like Gish and Jimmy Chamberlain is a fantastic drummer.
