I am not down on surveillance as some but this one one more step . towards Big Brother and it is also spreading to South America.

Initially, the Chinese government called them “safe cities.” What began as a traffic monitoring system quickly morphed into a political tool with facial recognition technologies constantly feeding information gathered from all possible surfaces in China. The consequences of these cyber nightmares are well documented in Xinjiang, where millions of CCTV systems track the whereabouts of citizens, while a politically motivated algorithm, the social credit system, works alongside to restrict physical mobility in an instant.

    This is especially frightening.

Others were barred 5.5 million times from buying train tickets, according to the National Public Credit Information Centre.

In an annual report, it said 128 people were blocked from leaving China due to unpaid taxes.

The system is part of efforts by President Xi Jinping's government to use technology ranging from data processing to genetic sequencing and facial recognition to tighten control.

We also do facial recognition, this is something I think we could take very seriously, a slippery slope into a dystopian nightmare.

I am worried about this stuff as well but it shuts people off to go right to a dystopian nightmare.

Technology is not evil itself its the abuse of said technology, we can educate ourselves to watch out.
