need a little advice... i'm looking for new cell phone service... where i live in vegas, i really only get good reception on sprint or verizon... what i'm looking for in a cell phone is 1. pda cell phone. 2. don't download music so don't care about mp3 stuff 3. no major office software but need the pda portion to be able to handle textbooks easily... (may occasionally open a word or spreadsheet document) 4. i would like to surf the web... 5. bluetooth needed. 6. camera is optional 7. good speakerphone in case i hate bluetooth earpieces i'm not sure if the motorola q or treo's would be better? or any others? any opinions/suggestions? thanks
don't get the q. horrible processor. treo 700w if you want a windows op. 700p if you want a palm. the w you can edit word and excel. the p, palm op, comes with "docs to go" on it, so you can edit word and excel on it too. both are expensive, so if you want something a little cheaper... go for the samsung i730. it's been out for a while now, but they've release a win mobile 5 upgrade for it. no cam, has speakerphone, has bluetooth, edit word/excel, pocket ie on it, win mob 5 upgrade enables you to use it as a modem, and probably the most stable pocket pc out there. all three are vzw.
I have a Sprint Treo 650, and I love it. I will never go back to a non-pda phone. This thing can do just about anything. If I were buying right now I would look at the Treo 700p, 700wx, and the PPC-6700. IMO, those are the best 3 pda phones on the market right now. These are all at Sprint. Sprint has a 15 day return policy so technically you could do that and try a couple out and see what fits you best. Personally I like the Palm OS. I've always had Palm so thats why I have one now. I think the next phone I get though will be a Windows Mobile phone, just to try it out. You really can't go wrong with any of them though. Go spend some time in a Sprint store and play around on them.
I had a treo 650, i loved the thing. Then i switched to a ppc 6700 and i hated it for 1 week then after i saw all the things i can do with it i fell in love. There are some crappy things about it but of course what do you expect it's basically a mini computer. I use the high speed internet on it all the time, i tether it to my laptop when im out of town and don't have free wifi and i use it as a modem. It's great. Sprint just came out with the new Treo 700P and the new Blackberry as well so they have about 4 great PDA phones out right now. You definetly have to try them in the store see which one feels good in your hands. The thing i miss most of the treo is the fact that i could type everything with one hand....the PPC has to be done with 2 hands.
There's an ebay seller that offers unbelievable deals on Sprint phones, if you're okay with a newly activated 2-year contract. Something like Treo 700p for $80-100.
what does the 6700 do better then the treo and vice versa (other then typing with one hand ) ? I've been contemplating between the 2 and read a little about each in sprintusers.com but can't make up my mind. That and the thought of having to pay more for Power Vision and in the process losing my unlimited text messaging unless I pay for that separate deal.
I have the PPC-6700 and love it. I use it as a GPS which is great for when I travel on business. I have poker and sudoku on it which is great for wherever I'm bored. It has voice activation that works automatically with my Outlook Contacts list, without training. Great because I have 500+ people in the list. I have Slingbox player on it so I can watch TV from wherever I want. Watch people be jealous when I'm waiting in line somewhere watching the Rockets.
I've come to the conclusion there are no good phones for what I need, so I'll stay with the phone I got about 3 years ago. The ones out there now have one issue or another that stop me from buying them. The new Blackberry from TMobile looks interesting, but I'd like WiFi. Samsung should be releasing a Q-like phone in the next month or two.
Well, I should clarify. The PPC-6700 can be used for all the stuff I stated, but those feature do not come with the phone by default. The GPS is a bluetooth GPS that can sync up with the phone. On the phone I have TomTom Navigator software. The GPS receiver gets the signal and passes it on to the phone so the software can display location. And to answer your question, no it does not cost anything extra monthly from Sprint. The cost is around $300 for the GPS receiver and software.
how's the reception, clarity, and battery life when using as a phone? How much are you paying for your power vision and did unlimited text messaging go with it?
Clarity is fine. Reception is okay. I don't get dropped calls but the signal strength isn't as good as T-Mobile. Battery life depends on what you do with it. I turn my wi-fi and bluetooth off until I need it and that helps. I also have an extended battery that is almost double the original battery. I pay $15 for power vision and because of the way the PPC-6700 works, I can use it as a modem, unlimited, for no extra cost. Text messaging does not come with it but they messed up my phone transfer when I first switched from T-Mobile and I was out of a phone for like 10 days. It was very frustrating since it is my business phone and I called up to complain and asked them to give me free text messaging for my troubles. They didn't give me unlimited but 500 messages. Which is more than enough.
