Ugh is all I can say.

After moving into a new house in an area where AT&T U-Verse is not available, my family decided that we basically had to go with Comcast.

    Then the hell started.

It's been a little over a week and we've already had 3 technicians visit the home along with 20 phone calls.

    So here's my problem:

My computer is hardwired to a router connected to my modem. Around 75% of the time, I'll get an internet connection that is satisfactory (around 100 mbps).

But that other 25% is the problem. I either get limited or no connectivity.

And this happens sporadically. I'll be browsing the internet for about 5 minutes before I lose connection, then I wait for it to come back (takes about 5 minutes).

I called them again a few minutes ago and the guy said that he found that I'm getting some sporadic packet losses which is causing the problem. He then said he's doing a diagnostic check and the results will arrive in 72 gotdang hours.

*As I typed this, my internet went out, and I had to unplug everything and replug all of the cables just to get my connection back*

So, is there anything I can do to check to see if the internet connections I am getting is what I'm actually paying for? And are these low packet problems easily fixable?

I've gotten on SpeedTest.com and also a Touchstone Status webpage (not sure what this one is, but the Comcast technician went to it today, saying that the "upstream numbers" on it were way low).

    Thanks in advance.

Something similar happened to my internet when I went from the comcast 12mbps to comcast blast (I think 16mbps). The internet would all of a sudden stop working for a few minutes, then start working again. The guy that came to fix it said he took out the filter or w/e its called that blocks me from using their tv cable service for free. He said that that was causing the problem because it was limiting the internet or something..That fixed the problem.. It no longer happened.
