If you had a choice: Sloan or JVG - Who would it be?

I would never want Jerry Sloan as a coach, simply because of the fact that he used to coach Malone, Stockton, Hornacek, and Ostertag.

P.S. This thread sucks cuz it reminds me of my hatred of the Jazz.

JVG can only wish he was as good as Sloan. Sloan has a track record of getting the most of his players. He actually has plays that work.

JVG has a track record of devaluing most of the players that play for him. Still looking for decent plays run by him.

Actually, JVG does have a coulpe of decent plays in his playbook. I remember that preseason game against Miami, there were 5 second in the third quarter and JVG called a timeout. Yao was all alone at the top of the key while the rest of the teams were all huddled around in the paint. Then yao and battier set some picks which allowed Novak to rush to the far sideline, then the ball was inbounded and Steve Novak had a wide open shot, but missed. That's a pretty good play for a game winner if you ask me.

wth! Sloan vs JVG!? Is there even any doubt about it? Sloan is one of the ringless coaches who should deserve a ring. What is JVG - a eighth seed miracle?

Yes, his plays are control plays. Control every set, every movement of every player. It has been demonstrated that control plays are not good plays for this team. Maybe i was good for a talentless Knicks team, but not this squad.

And when it comes to a fluid motion offense, JVG has NONE. Phil Jackson has critisized the offense that JVG uses and has mentioned that it is too predictable. And he is right. It is easy for opposing teams to set defensive plays against the Rockets. Jazz on the other hand wit their motion offense were getting any kind of good shots they wanted,

Yup Jerry Sloan is the greatest. Arguably the best PG (although I don't agree with that statement) and the best PF ever for years on his teams and no rings to show for it. What did they do - go to the playoffs something like 17 or 18 consecutive years and didn't win a championship? Great coach. He's a very good coach.... to a point. In many ways he's overrated, though. If he were the Rockets' coach, you'd be calling for his head, too.

I voted Jerry Sloan. It has nothing to do with tonight's game, either. Jerry Sloan is just that much better than JVG, despite the fact that he coaches the hated Jazz.

Sloan is so much better at making his players make free throws.

The depth of my hate for Sloan knows no bounds. He is a good coach though.

Jerry Sloan is a great coach and is respected throughout the league.
JVG is a knowlegable coach, who has yet to show that he is a good coach.

if there is a coach who has underachieved more than anybody else in the NBA the last 2 years, it's Jerry Sloan. If there is a coach who is a huge control freak who preaches his system over the players, it's Jerry Sloan.

How much money did Utah spend on FA's in 2004? And how many times are they in the playoffs? These guys are working on a four year long drought.

Be careful what you people wish for. He's the same as Van Gundy, jsut more rigid and a lifelong jazzhole.
