Which of these would people suggest.

    Sony Cybershot

    Canon Powershot

Im buying very soon. One reason being im going to NY for new years eve and want the camera for my first visit there. And also for my Mexico/Costa Rica/ Europe trip next summer.

So anyone have any opinions on these or the brands. thanks :)

I've tested both those products (not the exact model but similar ones) and I can say although Canon is probably better overall for picture quality I absolutely love the Cybershot's look and interface.

    I'd buy a Sony.

Basically that's exactly what it comes down to. Get the Canon and don't look back or think twice about it. We have 5 Canon's in the family and I'll never consider using anything else

Yea the only way to go is Canon. We have 4 powershots, and my DSLR. I can't really see myself buying anything other than Canon. Unless I need a new point and shoot and I see a better deal for a Nikon.

Don't know about Canon, but the battery life on Sony cameras is very good in my experience... and Sony products in general.

Canon makes very find high end digital cameras, but their low end models are shocking.

Picture quality wise, Canon is the way to go. I had 2 Cybershots and decided to try out a Canon, there was no question which was the better camera.

I only have used a Canon, but from what I have the picture quality is amazing. this is from a A630 powershot, has LCD screen etc..
the image is wayy too big and I am too lazy to make it smaller so I put it in spoiler
Or go to http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/8400/img0021io5.jpg so you can see it scaled

i was going to say canon as well. i think the last 7-8 cameras in our family have been canons and we all love them! just don't drop it when you're drunk...they tend to break. :(

I had about three sony's before my gf got me a canon powershot sd950is for my bday. I absolutely love this camera. It does everything right and better than my previous sony's.

Get the Canon. I have a Sony Cybershot TSC-10, 7.2 MP and I hate how it takes pictures. It's a decent camera, but I'd be a lot happier with a similar Canon. I never complained about how my Canon 4.0 MP camera took pics.

When it comes to cameras, I always go with a Canon. The picture quality will not disappoint. It'll impress.

I'm not sure how set you are with that particular Canon model, but check this one out.

    http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerSh...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1197951991&sr=8-1

similar specs, half the price. plus it's amazon...no tax, free shipping.

But if you're dead set on the SD950, it's still cheaper (plus no tax, free shipping) on amazon.com. Here's the link for the SD950:

    http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerSh...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1197952221&sr=8-1

Amazon's shipping is pretty good, too. I've had no problems getting my items, and I usually get my shipments a day or two earlier than what is listed.
