If Steve Francis is in it (which I'm pretty sure he will), how do yall think he'll do?

Vince Carter, hands down is the NBA best dunker.

the only reason i think they did bring it back is to make it a showcase for Vince. even if someone does have a better performance, i think Vince will still win (just like Kenny Smith vs. Dominique Wilkins). i think Francis will join, and will look good... but he is still looked as a bad guy around the league, and that should affect the judging i think.

No more 2-ball! I liked that idea!

More entertaining than any dunk contest I've seen in about 12 years.

I'm glad its back because of the potential contestants: Carter, Francis, Iverson, Bryant, Marbury, Ray Allen....that would kick a$$. Vince should probably win with his jump over the rim and stand on it dunk. Dude has the baddest leaps I've EVER seen (yes that includes MJ).

Iverson, Marbury, Ray Allen ???? Being a good dunker in game situation does not make you a good dunker in a dunking contest. If this was true, Clyde would've been a great competitor in the slam dunk competitions. Instead, he was very mediocre at best.

The dunk contest is really boring (but it is still better than 2-ball). It's like the "Why does the chicken cross the street?" joke, it get stale after a while. There is only so many ways to dunk a ball. I think we've already seen 85% to 90% of them through out the years. Each contestant have to come up with 3 dunks per round, where do they get these "original" dunks? They basically have to rehash some of the dunks that had been done by the dunkers that came before them - Dr. J, Niq', MJ, Nance, ...

The only good dunkers that I can think of at this moment are : Carter, Francis, MJ2, and maybe McGrady and maybe McDyess. What these guys have in common are that they have great hang time.

I hope they can come up with some "original ideas", but I doubt it ... sigh ...

I think they should do a "trick shot" contest, something along the line of making a shot from the back of the goal, or the around the back & under the leg shot. Now that I think they can come up with many creative ideas.

Moonbus, you're trying to tell me that watching a 6'0 guard gettign up and over the rim is not exciting? All of the guys I mentioned were noted because they have leaps, creativity, and attitude (except for Ray Allen). I'd rather watch MArbury and Iverson than McGrady and McDyess anyday. The tall guys have hangtime, but their height just makes dunking seem a less daunting task. I'll tell you what will make this contest a good one:
    1)fresh, young blood
2)some of the most explosive athletes the NBA has ever seen
3)a lot of crowd favorites, making the decision a difficult one as to who will win

Carter would be my pick, but then Kobe is supposed the be the greatest thing the league is trying to create. Plus, all the little guys don't take back seats to anybody. So back off your stance a little and lets see what these guys have in store for us..... or would you rather see the legends game return?

One question I have will the big-timed players actually participate in this contest. Few years back none of the big time players would participate in it. In the early years it was great with Dr J- Spudd- Dominique-Jordan, etc.

Will the young players take part?

I dont want to see Iverson in the dunk contest. His dunks are sorry and its not nice. Francis has the most ups for his height and I think he should join.

But the person who can do the best dunks is not VINCE CARTER.. Its reggie miller, Man I love those two handed dunks. ITS SO NICE.
    j/k

I think it should come down to Stevie and Vince. These things are so subjective though.Remember they tend to give the edge to the smaller guy!!!!!

Yeah Iverson is 6'0 and Francis is 6'3.
But Iverson cant do moves in the air when he dunks. He can get up there but doesnt do it that nice.

Francis does dunks that players bigger than him cant do.

    Deion ...
No, watching a 6'0 guard getting up and over the rim for a 2 handed slam is not exciting.

When Larry Nance, who is 6'10, won his contest, he was very exciting to watch.

When Spud Webb won the contest, he actually have some really interesting dunks. Neither Iverson, Marbury, nor Ray Allen have ever done any fancy dunks (that I've seen) that made me think that they can do something special in a dunk contest.

My main point is, the people who have came before them have already done most of the humanly possible dunks. There is not going to be much originality. I will be surprise if the contest have more than 3 or 4 original dunks (good ones that is).

Your points about why the contest is good:
    1)fresh, young blood
What good is that, if they have sorry dunks?
2)some of the most explosive athletes the NBA has ever seen
    This I will agree
3)a lot of crowd favorites, making the decision a difficult one as to who will win

There were a lot of crowd favorites back then, it didn't make a difference back then just as it wouldn't make a difference now.

Here is why I think this contest is no better than the last one:
    1) Bounce the ball off the backboard for a dunk. Yawn... seen it thousands of times.
    2) Bounce it off the floor for a one handed jam. Yawn... seen it hundreds of times.
    3) Take off from the free-throw line. Yawn... seen it at least 5 times.
    4) One ball in each hand ...
You know where I am going with this.
Last but not least... everyone wants to win the title. And when the time comes to the last 2 contestants, one will miss and the other one will do a simple two handed jam just to get the minimum points to win... Yawn...

I stand behind my views of the dunk contest. After the first 3 or 4 contests, there is just not much creativity left. I don't blame the players, it's just the nature of dunking - there is only so much you can do. I will eat crow if they have more than 4 original (good ones) dunks in the coming contest.

I don't mind watching the Lengend's game, at times they are more entertaining than the actual All-Star game.
