Took advantage of the Groupon for Skydive Houston back in December ($179 value for $99), and now for my first time I, along with some friends will be jumping tomorrow around 12 (as long as it doesn't rain). Anyone ever been before? Thinking about also possibly paying the extra fee for the video and pictures (I believe its $100), if it's worth it..
if they let you bring your own camera, pick up a goProHD <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/mRzhBkZNQFI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Crazy. Aren't you afraid of dying? Maybe it's just my extreme fear of heights. Hope you have fun, though. The cam sounds good.
I went skydiving with buddies during a trip to Vegas last summer. Jumping out of a plane at 15000 feet was definitely an experience to remember. I opted for the video option as well and I have to say it was worth it. Every time I feel like re-living the experience I whip it out and it feels like I'm back out there again almost. Make sure that the deal they're offering is a jump at the highest height possible. When I went they had a cheaper option but that was only at 8000 feet. Also, be forewarned about the straps around the crotch. Once the parachute deploys, they tighten up real bad and you'll be cringing the rest of the way down.
Hope everything goes okay and is safe. There was a skydiving accident a few weeks ago in Rosharon. http://www.khou.com/news/neighborho...-injured-in-skydiving-accident-117256488.html
Good luck, and let us know how it goes. I've been trying to psych myself out enough to do it over the past year or so. Even gone as far as to try to organize a group outing, but it never materialized. One of these days, though...
Pay attention to your tandem skydive partner. If he seems depressed ABORT mission! You only live once! Go for it!
Wow! That's where I did it. Scary, but you've gotta know it can happen. I'll be honest, it's not what I'd thought it would be, I expected there too be a rush (kind of like on the drop of a roller coaster) there was not. It was actually ( at least for me) a greater rush after the chute opened. You had time to look around and really think about how high you are. On the free fall, there are things you have to do. You're concentrating on your movement, altimeter and when to pull the chute, so no time too worry. It's totally worth it, though, gotta do it at least once in your life. I got the video and pictures. Good luck, have fun.
Yeah, this made us really nervous, and is super sad that it happened! We are doing tandem jumps (which you have to do the first time you skydive I believe), where you jump attached to an experienced skydiver that works for Skydive Houston. Hopefully, we won't have to witness something like that tomorrow.
we did a tethered jump a while back. No free-fall, but you're not strapped to someone else. (the shoots pulled automatically once you clear the plane). It....was....awesome. Scariest part was the trip up in the rattly old plane, and climbing out to the wing. Have fun, man.
I've seen stories like that several times from that location. I couldn't do it. I had a friend that was going to do it a few years ago but backed out when he said he found out his life insurance wouldn't payout to his family if he died skydiving.
I would be more worried about the plane crashing. I think that is where most of the "incidents" occur...versus the actual jump.
I try to make it a point to go skydiving in each new place I visit. So far, I've been diving in New Braunfels, Denver (over the Rockies....absolutely surreal), Gold Coast Australia, Cairns Australia, Jamaica, and Miami, with a canceled trip in China. Each and every experience was different, and each one had its own charm. As you're free-falling, make sure to take in the sights. It might feel like an eternity while you're up there, but the moment is fleeting, and you'll be back on the ground in no time. Also, I HIGHLY recommend getting it videotaped. Enjoy yourself man.
Agreed. Most places offer high and low altitude options and the difference is huge. In my case, it was 4000ft higher which was roughly 30sec more free fall time for $50 more. Totally worth it. Free fall is incredible.
So this past Sunday it finally went down and the pics and video came in! Here are just a couple pictures from the AWESOME experience I definitely recommend to everyone! Can't wait to go again! Jumped out while doing a flip in the air! Off the flip! Whats good, just chillin. Was Persian New Year on Sunday, hence the HPY (Happy New Year). 1390 is the year in Iran now. Picture on the ground after the skydive with my Tandem Instructor.
