So it's only the second week for me at UH, and I've already skipped two days of classes entirely, and another one of my classes yesterday! I feel like maybe I should go to some of them, but dang it, all they do is just read out of the text right now anyway, and I'm doing all my reading and taking notes on the chapter and all that stuff!

I need college people to tell me that what I'm doing is okay! Cause I soooo wanna keep doing it.

P.S. I'm only skipping the huge auditorium classes where they don't take attendance and don't know if I'm gone!

You sound entirely like me Apollo. I just graduated from UH too. I used to do the same exact thing. Used to tell myself that they read out of the textbook anyways so whats the point of going to class.

Well now I wish I did not do that. There is a reason people make better grades when they go to class. Some professors give out hints and what not in class on whats going to be on the next exam. You are paying good money for those classes and I suggest you use them right.

    GO TO YOUR CLASSES!

Couldn't agree with ROckets03 more. I just graduated from UMCP and I think in my entire college career, I attended about 25-30% of all my classes. I would show up the first day of class, then the day before the midterm, the day of, day before finals and the final for most of my classes.

The only classes I attended pretty regularly were my software theory, design classes and Orgo!!!

And yeah, I'd say that skipping classes hurt pretty bad :D I still managed a B+ GPA, but it cost me a balding head :-\

    i did the same thing...

in fact I was so bad that I skipped EVERY SINGLE class of CH301 (Chemistry Intro class) at U.T... (except for test days of course)...

however, i regret doing this in the upper division classes in my major... being at them would have been beneficial in the long run...

as for classes outside my major, i skipped all the time and it made no difference... as long as you read the text, you're good... (unless the prof. happens to mention that he's gonna put stuff on the tests that come directly from lectures, than you might wanna go!) :D

You know, actually learning something, not to mention getting something for your time and money, isn't such a bad deal.

Skipping class is fun, but sleeping through class because you partied too much the night before is more fun.

(RMT wistfully remembering his college days):D

Go to class, especially if you are in any field that requires math or science. Missing one day can throw you off for an entire semester, even if you read the book and follow along with the text.

I, too, skipped a lot of classes last fall and got by - but my performance was nothing like I was used to nor what I expect out of myself. You may hate dragging yourself out of bed early in the morning, or may be tempted to fall asleep in class...but at least make the effort to go.

It's well worth it in the end.

As much money as I don't make, we better hope not.

    Now go to your room.

Edit: Inevitable follow-up question: If you don't make much money, why do you recommend going to class?

    Er...uh...er...(sound of crickets chirping)

My old roomate skipped all his classes for a week one time and had no ill effects. You can easily get away with it, if you do it right.

I skipped classes in college all the time...

the classic was on the day of the Rockets-Clippers game 5 of the 1993 first round playoffs...i had a final that day...had on my vernon maxwell jersey...walked into the final an HOUR LATE with my stinking jersey on (duh!)...finished the test in about 30 minutes...got an A in the class...beautiful! and the Rockets won by the way!! :)

refman can testify that i skipped more than my fair share of federal income tax classes at UH Law School.

I know MadMax went to Baylor, but UT has finals scheduled every day of the week excluding Sunday (Wed - Tues). It feels so weird cramming for a test Friday night at the library.

I've had classes where I skipped nearly every class except the test days and got Bs, and there have been classes where I couldn't have skipped and done very well in the class. It just takes knowing which ones really are important to go to.

Of course, I've found that even in classes where I felt I could've skipped and done just fine, I've found that I didn't have to do as much out-of-class studying and whatnot if I attended class regularly.

My personal favorite classes were the ones where students were bribed to show up to class regularly. In my business law class, we got 10 points added to the end of the semester grade if we didn't miss a single class. Of course, since I went to every class, I ended up not needing the 10 points because I had an A anyway, but had I not had that bonus sitting out there, I probably would've skipped once or twice and probably not done as well on the tests.... if that makes any sense.

These days, it seems like every class I take has a required attendance policy with points counted off the final grade if a student misses more than two or three classes.

My advice would be to just go to class. Each time you skip, it just becomes that much easier to skip again, and before you know it, you've put an eye out.... No. I mean, sooner or later, you've skipped so much that your academics are actually suffering.

So I read the posts suggesting that I go to class, and I went to my afternoon Psych class. And I left thirty minutes into the hour and a half class, cause I realized I just didn't need to be there cause I had read everything she was going over! There's so much reading and book info to go over in most of my classes, there just isn't time for them to go over anything not in the text!

So I plan on going randomly to class, whenever I feel motivated enough. And if for some reason I don't do stellar on my first exams in each of the classes, then I'll make an adjustment with plenty of time to spare to make sure it'll get done.

Dude, recruiters don't care what grades you make anyway. It's all about how you can B.S. them. Work on your acting skills.

Besides, just tell them you whupped the Italian Stallion, and you'll get any job you want anyway.

from my experience, employers do care about your GPA, even a few years after you graduate...

in my current job hunt, I have been asked on numerous occasions about my GPA even though I graduated from college 2 years ago!
