Advertisement The Sixers could have a match now that Houston Rockets center Yao Ming might miss the entire season and possibly more with a foot injury that hasn't healed. The Rockets would also like to trade Tracy McGrady, who is entering the final season of his contract worth $23.2 million. According to an NBA source, the Sixers might look into such a deal. In order to make the salaries match within 25 percent, the Sixers would have to include another player or two. Dalembert has two years and $23.6 million left, including $11.4 million this coming season. But Dalembert also has a 15 percent trade kicker, which would add $3.8 million to his contract. That has been a huge roadblock in the Sixers' previous attempts to trade him. Another roadblock could be the other player, or players, the Sixers would have to include in the deal. The Sixers would most likely be willing to include Willie Green ($3.7 million) and perhaps a future draft pick, but not Lou Williams ($5 million). McGrady, meanwhile, is expected to miss the first half of next season as he recovers from knee surgery. That won't matter to the Sixers as much as McGrady's expiring contract, which would make the Sixers potential players in the heralded free agent class of 2010 (they wouldn't be in the running for LeBron James). There aren't too many other possible landing spots for Dalembert because of his contract and trade kicker. "Every team has bad contracts," the source said. "But that trade (kicker) just adds insult to injury." The Sixers also know that Dalembert could sulk if he returns and isn't playing regularly under coach Eddie Jordan. That's something he has done in the past. It would seem that Dalembert would get a chance to play regularly in Houston. But if the Sixers make that deal, chances are they wouldn't be able to re-sign Andre Miller without going over the luxury tax because of McGrady's contract. They might not be able to re-sign Miller anyway. The negotiating period for free agents began just past midnight, but it's likely that the Sixers won't want to sign Miller for more than two seasons. Miller's agent, Andy Miller (no relation), hasn't returned phone calls. Miller, 33, made $10 million last season, and chances are, he's looking for one last big contract, perhaps for four years. The Sixers probably won't go for that. They drafted Jrue Holiday to be the point guard of the future. The Sixers would be OK with letting Holiday learn behind Miller for a season or two, but probably not more than that. The Sixers could work out a sign-and-trade with Miller. There are rumors that Portland could be interested, with the Sixers getting point guard Steve Blake, who played under Jordan in Washington. That scenario could depend on whether Portland makes a run at Hedo Turkoglu. If that happens, the Blazers probably wouldn't have enough money to go after Miller. If Miller leaves, the Sixers could turn over the point guard position to Williams, who is entering his fifth season. This would be somewhat of a gamble, considering Williams has never really had the chance to play point guard with Miller on the team.
Willie Green at 4m? Undersized 2s who can put up 8-10 ppg off the bench are a dime a dozen. Louis Williams would be interesting because he's so young, but he hasn't shown a ton to make me believe he can play the point.
Oh hell no. I'd rather sign Gortat outright. Younger and just about as productive for the minutes he plays, and certainly cheaper if we can sign him. I may not be a big believer in gambling on free agency in 2010, but I'm not giving up the shot for Samuel freaking Dalembert.
So you want the Rockets to get a guy who'll be on the books for 24 million for the next 2 season. then he plays 24 min/gm, get 8.5 reb/gm, and scores 6 points/gm. uhhmmmmm!!! You've got to be joking. Right.
Helll noo to this. Why the hell would we want a small 2-guard...we dont need to get any younger. Dalembert is 4-5 million overpaid...dont deal tmac. His expiring contract is worth more than these scrubs.
I wouldn't be devasted by this trade with Philadelphia as long as we made it a three way swap with Portland, where we acquire one of their players like Rudy Fernandez, Travis Outlaw, Martell Webster or even (sign/trade) Channing Frye + the rights to Peteri Koponen. I haven't gone on the trade boards to see if it would work, but basically let Philly send Willie Green or someone to Portland. Otherwise, to take Dalembert off their hands, we want Thaddeus Young.
This Philadelphia trade proposal is worse than what some of us Houston homers post on the BBS. Include Iguodala and we might have interest. But that isn't happening, so....
Absolutely. Dalembert + Green for T-Mc sucks. We need more for T-Mc than than a chronically disgruntled player and another miniature guard. Morey should trade only for gruntled players.
I'd much rather have Thaddeus Young over Iguodala, who also is generally disgruntled (my word of the day!).
Dalembert in my opinion is an underachiever... he has great athletic ability, much like Birdman, but the difference is, Birdman plays hard. For $11 mil and some change, I will pass... Gortat is as great option. He is a legit 6'11" guy with good bulk, he has athleticism, loves to muscle around, throws the bows, rebounds and blocks shots... he is aggressive! He didnt become the "Polish Hammer" because he is soft. He plays a big man's game, we can definately use that, especially now! I believe Morey will offer Gortat a deal in the range of 5 yrs at $25 mil... More than the Magic will want to pay for a back up Center, especially since they will want to sign Turkoglu back... Plus, Gortat will likely be our starter for much of this season if not the entire thing and maybe more if Yao doesnt heal properly. He is a backup in Orlando for sure... Of course he wants the minutes! We shall see but I love the way Morey makes things happen.
T-Mac's value: Huge expiring contract that will be covered by insurance until he comes back, plus a chance at an above-average player during the end stages of a playoff run. Dalembert's value: Average center who is overpaid, and will be so for 2 more years. The 76ers reporter is on crack. Teams often pay other teams just to get rid of players with contracts like Dalemebert (see Kurt Thomas, Marcus Camby). Maybe if the sixers throw in 2 first rounders we could consider it.
