Why do you think Simmons has so much value around the league? Curious to know...

We waited almost two months to get this offer from BKN. When they finally signaled they were ready to consider getting there we took almost a full day to complete the trade. The other side of it is that Philly could back out too and we lose our leverage with BKN.

You can't fart around when things get serious. Morey knows this. You remember when he traded first rounder to get off Lin's salary? It goes for any industry, not just basketball. When the Rox got a deal they are ready to do they can't sit around forever waiting on Morey to put his best offer forward.

I'm not taking schadenfreude in Morey losing out on James if it meant we could have gotten something drastically better like Simmons, Maxey, 3 unprotected firsts and two unprotected swaps or something. But with two months of a guy being on the block and nearly a full day to really get your stuff together I'm not going to blame the seller most of the time if the bidder thinks they never got to show their best offer.

That doesn't automatically mean they're going to leave BK

I donno if you'd get a top 3 pick but 2 top 10s isnt crazy and for a different organization is also much safer.

That's because the Rockets werent ready to trade him. And they were resistant on moving him until we saw were the roster was at. We had time. IRVING WAS GONE. Dantoni and Durant were pushing hard for this trade and that wasnt going to change. We could have absolutely leveraged the Sixers more. Especially when he had BKN bidding like that and especially when we know how Morey feels about Harden. I dont even care about the picks swaps. Could have given me 3 unprotected firsts and I would have been fine with it. We then had assets in Maxey and Simmons to use for more picks. We had time.

Why would I not think a 24 year old all star has value around the league? Look at Charlotte, they maxed Hayward LOL.

Lulz thats just your assumption man. Stop talking like you're some sage with heaven's eyes knowing all this stuff.

You talking about stuff like "safer" and "surer thing" without any basis or proof. I can say EG is worth a lotto pick and that has as much evidence as the stuff you say.

True but at that point Harden and KD will be turning 34 and 35. And we’ll still have 4 years of their picks.

That Hayward signing was so stupid, but it is Jordan and the Hornets we are talking about so what more can you expect? Value to me is rather a player is playing at, above, or below what he is getting paid on his contract. Simmons makes over 30+ million for the next 5 seasons. Simmons has only scored 30 or more points 5 times his entire career and has never had a 40 point game or higher in the NBA. He also hasn't even scored 20 or more points this season. So I think when you have to pay a guy $177 million dollars for 5 years, you either want to believe he is a number 1 or a number 2 option. Simmons is an overpaid role player. Excellent defender, good passer, but nothing more. Is Simmons on court play worth his contact? In my opinion no, and for that reason I believe he has negative value....

And its your assumption that the Nets will be bad LOOOOOOL. Please with this crap. Relying on the Nets incompetence and getting a mediocre picks isnt a great deal period.

Impact metrics have him at all star level. He can be Draymond at worst(better physical tools but lower defensive IQ). He's also 24 years old, the fact that you think we could not flip him for good assets is in fact crazy to me. The fact that people are are relying on the Nets to implode because they have a hate boner for Harden and dont realize the Nets are a very well run organization is crazy to me. The fact that people think we coulndt have at least leveraged Philly is crazy to me. The fact that people think Simmons is some trash player is crazy to me, he's a 24 year old all star at worst.

    https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2020-nba-player-projections/ben-simmons/

    https://www.spotrac.com/nba/philadelphia-76ers/ben-simmons-20206/

538 projects him to be worth 156 mil over the next five years. 21 million less than his actual deal. Though half of the deficit is projected in the last 2 years of the contract.

The model projects him as roughly a +6 to +6.4 WAR player over the life of the deal. Over the years that’s generally top 35-45 in the league. Value added he projects as a mid tier 2nd option.

Extreme positive contract value? Not even close
Worth about what he is paid? I’d say so.

In any event, if Morey had some drastically better offer he was sitting on he's got a chance to call Stone with it now if there really is a chance Indy might fail Levert on his physical.

There’s no guarantee no matter which deal you’re taking. What you need to do is take the deal that gives the highest chance of a high draft pick, and that’s the nets

That's not the nets, its flipping simmons and maxey for assets. And getting whatever picks you can from the Sixers. I'll take that any day over whatever we got from the Nets. Not to mention these picks that might be good are lik 5-6 years from now lol.

it doesn't matter how far away it is, the rockets are not gonna be contenders no matter what anytime soon. Winning 5 or 20 or 40 games is all the same, i'd rather win 5 (obviously). I don't think teams will trade multiple unprotected 1s for simmons, and would have ZERO interest in hoping that you can find a sucker when you already have this nets deal
