This will start in 2007 after the current deal with XM ends. Probably not a lot of people here interested in this but I like NASCAR so I'm happy. If they had just gotten baseball they would have cornered the sports market.

NEW YORK (Ticker) - Two days after the Daytona 500 was attended by approximately 180,000 people and viewed on FOX by millions more, NASCAR signed an agreement to continue growth of the sport's coverage.

On Tuesday, NASCAR signed a five-year $107.5 million agreement that will make SIRIUS its official satellite radio partner.

SIRIUS, the sports leader on satellite radio, will broadcast all Nextel Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck series events on a specially created 24-hour NASCAR channel beginning in 2007. SIRIUS will hold exclusive rights to radio coverage of NASCAR races and have exclusive trademark and marketing rights.

"SIRIUS is the sports leader on satellite radio, and sports programming is a leading reason subscribers choose SIRIUS," NASCAR chairman and chief executive officer Brian France said. "When you combine NASCAR's growing popularity with SIRIUS' commitment to bringing the best in sports to its subscribers, it's easy to understand why we made the move."

Thanks in part to the Nextel Cup's innovative 10-race "Chase for the Championship" last year, which paved the way for the closest finish in the history of stock car racing, NASCAR has risen considerably in popularity. It has been estimated that NASCAR's fan base exceeds 75 million.

"NASCAR and SIRIUS share a vision and passion for the future, and today's announcement sets the stage for a very unique partnership within our industry," NASCAR digital entertainment president Paul Brooks said. "For the first time ever, NASCAR is combining a national programming and content partnership with multi-channel branding opportunities and a major national marketing commitment."

they also just signed a deal, or about to, with Apple to incorporate Sirius into iPods.

Tony Kornheiser's show, which is probably my favorite AM talk radio show, will begin broadcast on XM soon if it hasn't already.

To me, Kornheiser + MLB >>> Stern + NFL + NASCAR

But to be more accurate it is really:

TK + MLB vs. Stern + NFL + NBA + NASCAR + NCAA Football + NCAA Basketball

Castor, XM radio has several of the big football conferences. They have Big Ten, Pac Ten, ACC, and Big East football IIRC.
